I've even looked if he does private treatment but, sadly, it appears not. He is too far away from me to register with or I would. I agree with you, Jane. This Dr. Kerbel stands out from the crowd of "experts" they have on the forum and he is growing on me. I googled him, he seems to be in Leicester.... Pity for me - I would accept him as my GP too, particularly since my own GP is about to retire and all the others in my local health centre are pretty useless. I found an interesting reply so somebody else on the forum (pls. see below).... looks like our Dr. K. is South African and has a family afflicted with hypothyroidism... just gets to show – the best thyroid doctors are those who either are hypo themselves or have family with the condition. by Dr Kerbel on Thu Jan 26, 2012 10:48 pm It is unusual in my experince to find a GP who professes an interest in hypothyroidism - I would definitely try them out.I suspect they would manage you more aggressively and confidently. In my case I developed an interest in hypothyroidism as a number of my family have hypothyroidism and some have been pretty badly managed. There is nothing stopping you registering somewhere else if you dont get along.I would go into the practices you are considering and ask for a practice leaflet which should outline what is offered. The vibe you get from the receptionists and waiting area will often reflect the ethos of the practice eg. is it friendly, efficient, large, clean etc.Everyones priorities are different. The personality and approach of an individual GP can only really be judged by trying them out!
Guest guest
Hi all, figured out how we can post although the forum is officially locked.... you need to have the link to the thread you want to reply to.... I have just posted a 'thank you' to Dr. Kerbel..... I gather others wanted to do the same, so here is the link. http://www.talkhealthpartnership.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=194 & t=2275 & p=6632#p6632 Sheila - just got your pm.... the above is the only way we can post, it seems. So if you have the link to a particular thread, it seems to work. Love, xx
Guest guest
I just posted this: Dear Dr Kerbel, Thank you for understanding, I wish other GPs would too! My only question is that if the NHS and GPs are under so much pressure to reduce spending, surely the logical - and strategic - way to do this would be to treat hypothyroid patients correctly and LISTEN to us! Instead just look at numbers and try to save money by not doing test that are required (my GP doesn't even understand what is required and even though I have given him printed info, he refuses to educate himself...) and giving us medication that doesn't help, like T4 only or ANTIDEPRESSANTS! Indeed! If they treated us with the correct meds, we won't develop other issues, that are secondary to hypothyroidism, such as depression, weight problems, high cholesterol, muscle and joint pains and aches, compromised immune system, thinning hair, dry skin and other skin conditions, adrenal deficiency just to name a few. If doctors would not get bonuses for prescribing certain medications (like antidepressants) and would treat us properly as they swore in their Hippocratic Oath, then they would save a lot more money! If GPs would serve the patients and not think about the bonuses they get from big Pharma, we would all be in a better position. Where do they teach it in med school not to listen to the patients and if they complain too much then just tell them that this is outside of your field of expertise and try to flog them some antidepressants? Thanks, Anita AND I DIDN'T POST THIS but can I just say that Dr Lazarus seem to only be able to raise eyebrows NOT the dead, and Dr Beastall, the name says it all; he is a beast allright. The rubbish they talk makes my blood boil! Ignorant twits! RANT OVER > > Grrrr! I need the link to be active so I can respond to both Dr Beastall and > right below him, to Professor Lazarus, but this gives me nothing but LOCKED. > Help please. http://www.talkhealthpartnership.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=185 > <http://www.talkhealthpartnership.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=185 & t=2103 & p=607 > 6#p6076> & t=2103 & p=6076#p6076
