Guest guest
My doctor has just agreed to start me on levothyroxine, which I didn't really expect her to do, as my TSH is 'only' 4.1. The problem is that my ferritin is low at the moment, and I'm working on raising it. It was 18 when tested last month, and I'd like to get it up to 70 - 90 range before I start the levo. I said I wouldn't start the levo for a few months, for that reason, which she was fine with; she told me to take it for 4-6 weeks, once I got started, and then request blood tests and we'd see how my ferritin was doing then. However, might it be a bit daft to start the levo before I know my ferritin is adequately raised? Should I ask for another blood test just on my iron levels, in another couple of months, to see if it's improved, BEFORE I try the levo? As I can barely tolerate supplements, I'm trying to improve my iron through diet, so I imagine it's going to take quite a while.
