Guest guest
Thanks Sheila for your last reply. I couldn't get the B12 injection today, will have to wait till next week, but did get test results and a copy of the referral letter. Of my results, my FT4 is now 10.8pmol/L (down from 11.8 late Dec) and my TSH has gone from 1.19 to 3.06mu/L. Interestingly, the lab range change on FT4 is to reflect the local population! The B12 level is 167 pg/ml. Cortisol level is 991 nmol/L. The report says they show diurnal variation and morning values should be 140-690 nmol/L. I did the aldosterone pupil test and have constant fluttering. The referral letter is short and sweet, I have been " researching the internet " and " feel tired and out of sorts " and " wondering about adrenal deficiency " . Plus regular periods and normal heart sounds(she's never asked and last checked over a year ago) and " no signs of thyroid disease clinically " . She wants his advice on how to manage me! I've printed off the advice notes on my first appointment and will write everything down, may see if my boyfriend can come with me. Can someone help me understand the cortisol levels please? Should I be ordering a saliva kit? Thank you, Lu
Guest guest
Of my results, my FT4 is now 10.8pmol/L (down from 11.8 late Dec) and my TSH has gone from 1.19 to 3.06mu/L. FT4 is only one point from the very bottom of the reference range and TSH is rising because of this. The pituitary gland that secretes TSH is telling the thyroid gland to start pumping out more thyroid hormone because it has detected too little thyroid hormone in your blood. The B12 level is 167 pg/ml. Always show the reference range whenever you give us test results Lu so we can see whether they are at the bottom, the middle, the top or even outside of the reference range. However, this looks to me to be right down at the bottom of the reference range, if not outside the bottom of the range. Your B12 should be right at the top of the range, i.e. about 700 and above. This calls for a course of B12 injections. Did your doctor miss this very low result???? Not treating this now could results in you suffering with pernicious anaemia. Cortisol level is 991 nmol/L. The report says they show diurnal variation and morning values should be 140-690 nmol/L. I did the aldosterone pupil test and have constant fluttering. Others know more about serum cortisol levels than I do and hopefully will come along and answer this. Luv - Sheila No virus found in this message. Guest guest
Check our FILES section Lu accessible from the Home Page of this forum. On the list that opens, check out the ADRENAL folder and you will find lots of extremely useful information. Then scroll right down the list to Vitamins and Minerals Folder, open that and read about the various vitamins and minerals and their association with low thyroid. Sadly, unless your GP is diligent, be prepared for him/her knowing little about the association between low thyroid, adrenal fatigue/low mins/vits. Luv - Sheila Sorry! B12 range is 180-914 pg/ml. It's only the second B12 test she's agreed to give me, the last was 199pg/ml a year ago. I have a very good friend with B12 deficiency and he said then that it was low, his tests ranges were 200-900 pg/ml but she wouldn't listen then There is a very good chapter in STTM about adrenals, apparently the high range indicates that my adrenal gland is overcompensating. It certainly explains how I've been feeling lately! It will be interesting to speak to the Dr on Monday. I've ordered a saliva test kit too. Guest guest
> > Tsh. 1.35.........0.4-4.0 - TSH is fine > > > > Free thyroxine t4. 13.5......10-22 - free T4 is low, but this is often expected when taking natural thyroid extract. T4 is mainly an inactive thyroid hormone. It is the T3 that is active and needs to get into every cell in the body and brain to make them function. > > > > Free t3....5.8........2.8-6.5 - Had you taken any thyroid hormone on the morning you had your blood drawn for this test? > > > > I'm taking two grains of erfa and 25mg thyroxine. > > > > I was wondering why the t4 was so low.im pleased my t3 improved,it never increased on t4 only. Guest guest
, if you are still suffering symptoms of hypothyroidism, it could be because your dose of Erfa Thyroid is not high enough. We usually recommend increasing your natural thyroid extract by half a grain (30mgs) every 3 to 4 weeks until you reach the level that takes away your symptoms. If ever you start to get palpitations, feel 'spaced out' dizzy, sweating or other symptoms of hyperthyroidism after an increase in dose, don't take any more NDT that day, and the day after, go back to the dose you were taking the day before that increase. Luv - Sheila Would adding more erfa increase my t4 'or should I increase the thyroxine?
