Guest guest
Find another GP and FAST! This one will do no other than cause you grievous bodily harm. Every patients who was hypothyroid was treated with natural thyroid extract and nothing else for well over 50 years, and it had proved safe and effective in all of that time. This was before synthetic T4 was manufactured. T4 is a mainly inactive thyroid hormone that has to convert to the active thyroid hormone T3. Without T3, we die. Not being able to sleep at night could well be your hormones are completely shot. Your cortisol secretion may be running high when you go to bed, when it should be running low, to help you to sleep - but you won't know that unless you do the 24 hour saliva test. Cortisol secretion should be tested at four specific times during the day. It might help if you started to take natural Melatonin 3mgs. You take this half an hour before going to bed, you start to feel sleepy and in the morning you find you have had an excellent nights sleep. You must, however, sleep in a very dark room, no chinks of light showing. Insomnia has many causes and can occur in both hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism as well. It matters not whether your doctor has heard of Armour or not. Tell her that there are many, many patients getting their health back on natural thyroid extract, because it contains T4, T3, T2, T1 plus calcitonin for the bones. If she has not heard of this, then she should start to do some research, or better, still ask her to join this forum *grin*. She would soon have her eyes opened. Professor Weetman (former President of the British Thyroid Association) gave evidence in court that thyroid extract should NOT be taken in a morning because it makes the results flawed. This is especially true of anybody taking synthetic T3 or the T3 in natural thyroid extract because the T3 peaks in the blood between 2 to 3 hours after taking it, and would make a free T3 reading very high. Listen to the professionals Judy. Doctors are dangerous who treat their patients when they know nothing about the medication they are taking. 1 grain (60 mg) of Armour thyroid contains 9 mcg of T3 and 38 mcg of T4 and T3 is approximately four times as potent as T4? So, multiply the 9 mcg of T3 times 4 and then add that to the 38 mcg of T4: 36 mcg (9 mcg of T3 times 4) + 38 mcg of T4 ---------------------------------- 74 mcg so 1 grain (60 mg) of Armour equals approximately 74 mcg of T4 (Levothyroxine) - but you are taking only half of that. Not sure how she worked out 100mcgs. Also I would find it extremely worrying if she really believe you were suffering with HYPERTHYROIDISM that she tells you to take your Armour on the morning you have your blood test. Seriously, find a different doctor, or get referred to an endocrinologist. Hope that helps. Sheila Saw GP today who will do blood test (TSH + T4) - but NOT T3 unless T4 is abnormal. Well at least a start. I started by telling her a major sympton is Chronic Insomnia - her response - You Are HyPER NOT HyPO. Saying " You would sleep if HyPO and Not sleep if HyPER " . Well as far as I can tell from reading Insomnia is a common symptom of HyPO? This DR had Never heard of ARMOUR T, had to look it up on the computer & then was horrified that I was self medicating on 1/2 grain which is the equiv of 100mcg of Levo according to her.... Proceeded to tell me all the dire consequences to my health if I am taking AMOUR T when HyPER. (I told her I had been under care of therapists for some while - - she seethed) SHE SUGGESTED I STILL TAKE ARMOUR ON THE MORNING OF THE BLOOD TEST - THIS SEEMS ODD TO ME? My initial inclination was I should not be taking ARMOUR on the test day as it will show a false reading? But as I am new to the GP route I thought I would ask opinion of anyone here who has more experience than me. Thanks No virus found in this message. Guest guest
How this person is a doctor i have no idea, its as if they are making it up off the top of their head. Find another doctor ASAP or if you want to stick with this doctor then do as much researching as possible and take the reasearch with you in to the appointment. I needed a good laugh today and I just had one! I think this is one for our bloomers section, Sheila .... Well, Judy – being new to the GP route and all that, your novice gut instinct is a damn site better than the "knowledge" of your doctor. Trust your instincts and keep taking your Armour (but not on the morning before your blood draw!) . Let's wait for your results and take it from there, but one thing I can tell you even without knowing your blood results – if you really were hyper, I assure you, you'd know about it !!! Nobody in his or her right mind will overdose on thyroid hormone without noticing it ! With best wishes,
Guest guest
Dear Judy.........that's just such a typical typical story! I had chronic insomnia for 6 years on T4, I would be so exhausted, had a very stressy job, cold, tired all the hypo stuff.........but sleep, oh no, I felt like a lived on adrenalin. It mad me feel, look and act mad. I have been on Erfa for 2 years, this has made a massive difference, I sleep like a baby, feel warm, nice clear head and a sense of humour that I thought had died! Do get another GP if you can who will at least get the blood tests you require. Hang in there too, don't give up and stay on T4 if you feel unwell.
