One of Salon's Health writers, Arthur , wrote a " counterpoint " to my piece--he's very pro-vaccine--and if you don't like what he says, I hope you will respond with some feedback. Salon has a readership of four million, so the autism community should get some good exposure from the piece. I talked with our good senator, Mike Polak, and he's agreed to help us and talk to people he knows at DFACS about funding for ABA in Georgia. I'm getting him some research now. The article will help the cause--I talk about the benefits of ABA and how it's not covered by insurance. Guest guest
http://www.salon.com/health/feature/2000/08/02/autism/index.html I am very disturbed by the response to the article written by Lesli Mitchel about autism that was published on Salon.com. I can't beleive the blatant scare tactics employed. But most shocking is the quote by Dr. Rodier: " Having your national research agenda run by crazy people is not the best thing, " says Dr. Rodier, an autism researcher at the University of Rochester. " The tragedy is that we're spending money that could help us find the real causes of autism. " She simultaneously dismisses the possibility of a causal relationship between the MMR and autism while she admits that no research has been done on the subject and if she had her way there never would be any research. How idiotic is that? Where have a heard this whole line before? Oh ya. It was OJ, saying " I just want to find the real killers " . Right! Give me a break.
