Guest guest
These present Executive Committee Members of the BTA need to go away and get in some fresh blood. Sheila Please answer my question by supressedtsh on Sat Jan 28, 2012 5:29 pm I have levothyroxine prescribed by my GP and after trying additional T3 that didn't help I am now well after adding a little natural desiccated thyroid medication. My endocrinologist is aware and happy that I take this. My endocrinologist has asked my GP to prescribe the NDT, my GP says no. I find this very frustrating that I have found the answer to my ill-health and after much research got to the bottom of why I was not improving but have to purchase the NDT myself. I know that it is down to each individual GP whether they prescribe NDT to a patient or not. I have a letter from the Dept of Health telling me this. My question is this:- Why do some NHS GP's prescribe NDT and some do not? (In my case it cannot be down to cost because T3 is far more expensive which I had prescribed by my GP) In your answer, please do not tell me that NDT is unreliable because this is NOT the case, please tell me why some GP's prescribe NDT and some do not. Re: Please answer my question by Dr Petros Perros on Thu Feb 09, 2012 1:13 am I am sorry I cannot answer for your GP, you will need to ask him or her. Here are some of the reasons why I don't prescribe thyroid extract. My personal experience of patients who I have seen and who have been on it is that it is unhelpful. Some feel worse. The serum FT3 in patients taking thyroid extract is often elevated in the hyperthyroid range The levels of FT3 fluctuate widely (unlike with levothyroxine and unlike normal people) I have concerns about the long term effects of high FT3 levels especially with regards to the heart and bones

Guest guest
Go to our FILES section which you can access from the Home Page of this web site thyroid treatment and in the Menu, click on FILES. On the page that opens, scroll down to the folder 'Thyroid References' and go through there, and you will find lots of papers there. Do it when you have some time on your hands, and you will find there are suitable headings so you are not searching through the whole lot. There's lots of papers there. You will also find some here http://www.tpa-uk.org.uk/resp_bta_t4t3.pdf Luv - Sheila Dear Dr peros, i am wtiting in reply as i am very intnerested int 3. having been on t4 for two years and feel awfull despite levels of t4 adn tsh being ok. i ahve never been checked for t3 and i wonder why as on leveo thyroxine i only get checked ofr t4 and tsh. Guest guest
Hi Sheila, can some one point out to these so called experts that the reason some patients don`t do well on any thyroid medicines is because they have other issues. to many to detail. one being the Adrenals. Angel.who is still ill with the candida. oh my belly is full of wind and i don`t no what i am doing.!!!! taking anti-fungals and bicarb trying not to eat the wrong foods. any help with a menu would be great. thanks every one.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Guest guest
I don't know if this will help you but many, many years of being really seriously disabled with belly problems turned out to be an intolerance to lactose and not as I had previously thought candida. I have resolved the vast majority of my stomach and bowel problems by eliminating lactose from my diet. It might be worth trying? Guest guest
Perhaps trying a gluten free diet to see if that might help Angel. Give it a trial for a couple of weeks to see what happens. For anybody interested, TPA has an excellent book to lend out to members for those intolerant of lactose called “The Lactose Free Cookbook” By Sheri Updyke. See attached. Guest guest
hi Debs, thanks for your help. let me see gluten is flour (wheat) and lactose is milk. well i have been eating flour products and i seem to be ok on this and as for the milk again i seem to be ok also. so this only means it is the candida. i have just this moment made a soda bread which their is no yeast. so will no if their is a problem after eating this loaf. feel i little better when not eating any yeast products and sugar. if eating these then i am getting giddy spacey feelings and headaches. so it spells out candida and auto-antibodies which was horrendous. i need to get on top of it as i don`t wont to give up my job. i am staying on for a whileas i don`t need to retire now i am 65. wow i am a pensioner. ummmm regards Angel. Guest guest
How would you know if you are O.K. on these foods unless you eliminate them from your diet. I thought I was O.K with bread, but when I went gluten and wheat free my I.B.S disappeared within a week. Yet if I have even as much wheat/gluten as there would be in a sausage (minute amounts) I bloat within an hour. If I risked a sandwich, not only would I have the bloating, I would have diarrhea the next day so incapacitating that it would keep me indoors out of fear of not being able to reach a toilet in time. Yet for 15 years I never thought that so common a substance as wheat could be the cause of all my problems. I have yet to try and cut out milk, as I think it may be the cause of my permanent hay fever symptoms, but I will pluck up the courage to do it, one of these days. 2 > > hi Debs, thanks for your help. let me see gluten is flour (wheat) and lactose is milk. well i have been eating flour products and > > i seem to be ok on this and as for the milk again i seem to be ok also. so this only means it is the candida. Guest guest
Hi Angel Sorry I can't be more help. I find I do best when eating no lactose and no carbohydrate, boring but effective for me. I really hope things sort themselves out for you soon. Have you tried fasting and re-introducing food one at a time?
