Guest guest
What op is that? It may prove to be unnecessary. A lot of " women's problems " are thyroid related. Miriam > > Hi All, I visited my GP today who is sympathetic to the NDT cause. He has ordered all my tests recommended on here and i will post when results come in. However, I was on the Gynae waiting list for a procedure and it was actually their pre-op screening that showed i was hypo again and i've been trying to get right ever since Sept 11. My GP has today received a letter from the consultant (He is not lying and i read it myself today!) stating that the hospital anaesthetist is refusing to put me under due to the fact i am on an unlicensed drug and that if i do not go back on thyroxine to get my numbers " within acceptable ranges " i will not be operated on. Now as it happens, my Gynae problem has improved significantly since i've upped my dose and i may not need this procedure at all but i'm shocked and a little scared about anything for the future. Has anyone else had this experience? I've been on NDT for 5 years but this is the first time i've needed any Ops. I'm up in Aberdeen. Thx x >
Guest guest
I know that Miriam which is why I put the statement below in my original post. My point is about anaesthetists not operating if you're on NDT. > > *Now as it happens, my Gynae problem has improved significantly since i've upped my dose and i may not need this procedure at all* >
Guest guest
Sorry, I didn't see your original post. You must have changed the title because there are only 3 messages in this thread. Guest guest
This is appalling. Write back immediately to the anaesthetist and give him a copy of the letter from the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) together with the follow up Emails from them to me, to say that NHS doctors are allowed to prescribe unlicensed medicines, i.e. Armour Thyroid, Erfa Thyroid, Nature Throid and Westhroid, if the standard medication doesn't work, so long as a doctor takes full responsibility as these drugs remain unlicensed. They have never required a licence as they were 'grandfathered' in as being a safe and effective drug that has never proved to have had any problems in the past. For over 50 years, NDT was the ONLY medication given to all sufferers of the symptoms of hypothyroidism. Demand an apology from this anaesthetist. In fact, this is so bad, I would complain strongly to the hospitals chief executive. This is quite terrifying. Guest guest
Hi Sheila, Thx i have printed copies of the attachments. I will see my Gp re-test results and discuss then. He doesn't prescribe my NDT (overruled by partners in practice) but he gives me guidance and all my tests. Hoping that doesn't make a difference. In any case, i will be involving the Hospital Head Honchos. Terrifying Indeed! > > This is appalling. Guest guest
Hi Cat, My thoughts exactly and i will be pursuing this further when i am stable. I went hypo again about a year ago which is why my numbers are all over the place and i'm having trouble tolerating a higher dose so Doc is doing the tests recommended on here to see if there's anything else going on. I will keep you all informed about the hospital situation. > > as a patient with an underactive thyroid they do have to be more careful as you are more likely to have issues with anesthesia (I had the consultant and registrar anesthetist in with me). > > You should be within range (and I don't know your background as to why you're not within range after 5 years), but your anaethetist should have no comment on the drug used to get there! > > Cat. > >
Guest guest
191510 Cold-shock domain-containing E1, RNA-binding Winter might be expected to produce cold shock response ! requiring NDT/LT4 /T3 adjusments non-thyroidal illness might be expected post-operatively ~ requiring extra T3 ?
