Guest guest
I feel your pain. My brother's wife had a confirmed case of the flu. Apparently my brother now has it. One of the kids let it slip to my mom, and she asked them to wait to come over till we left. Never crossed their minds. They just planned for her to stay away from my kids. Hello, the kids will probably get it from the parents. All I could say was, " Good save, Mom! " People just don't think. Actually, they were very nice about it. @...: osdbmom@...: Sat, 27 Dec 2008 15:20:48 +0000Subject: RANT!! This is so irritating!! Everyone in our family knows of our childrensPIDD's. We have four asthmatic kids, three of those with CVID.Everyone knows to check in with me before a family gathering ifsomeone in their household is sick. So.......we went to my parents house for Christmas, as usual. AFTER wecome in and give hugs all the way around the family......AFTER we sittogether to eat.......AFTER we all hand out gifts and give, again, hugs for those received.....my brother tells me his wife has beenpuking all day, and having diarrhea, and he had it the day before. WHY??? why would anyone go to a family Christmas puking? esp when youknow your sisters kids have CVID? It just blows my mind they wouldntthink to call and let me know they had this, and that they were stillcoming, I would have stayed home!! Now Ive got one puking kid, andvery likely the other three will catch it, and we'll be home puking,or at the hospital puking, for all of the kids winter break. Guest guest
It's happened to us too. In my parents in law's minds, they thought if they all washed their hands and kept the gastro child in another room, everything would be fine. Hello? Gastro is contagious before the V & D starts too. My FIL had actually picked it up from the one grandchild that isn't ours, passed it on to one of our oldest, before he had any signs and symptoms, who then brought it home! My eldest daughter was devastated when she discovered there was gastro in the house. SHE got it and she's only 12 but my in laws still don't understand. They just don't get it. I hope your family recover okay and that you can avoid the hospital. Tiff RANT!! This is so irritating!! Everyone in our family knows of our childrens PIDD's. Guest guest
Just got back from seeing my GP, whose a personal friend, what a @~%*@@* pillock, excuse my French. I've had Hashi's since February 2011 and was on 100 mcgm of Levo when I went backwards in September, I've been increasing since then and now on 200 mcgm since just over a week and not feeling too bad, but far from right. He reckoned that I should be on 150 mcgm because my TSH was ok on that in November, regardless of how I was feeling, my TSH 3 weeks ago on 175 mcgm was 0.02 with a whole host of niggling little symptoms. I've been getting him to test various things, tips from this group, but his reasoning this time was completely flawed and I took great delight (maybe I shouldn't) in discrediting almost everything he put forward. At this point I think he realised he was out of his depth and is referring me to an endo. Interestingly, after I got him to get more bloods done for the essential vitamins and minerals, he looked back in my notes and said I was slightly anaemic! That doesn't help. I kept telling him that for healthy people being low in any range vitamin, mineral or whatever might not have any effect, but when you're ill it can have implications as to how well you might recover. At this point he then went back to 'we must go out cycling soon' at which point I thought time to leave after telling him 'when I'm better'. Rant over, sorry. It's just that you will all understand what I'm rambling on about. Geraint.

Guest guest
Hi Geraint, I'm sure you've got most of the tests covered. I'd just like to add that not many patients get a 100% recovery on T4 only. You've probably been told that also. You'd be better off with either natural thyroid or a T4/T3 combo. Also in terms of iron you really need transferrin saturation % to be in the 35-45% region and a decent level of serum iron - well over half way up the reference range, ideally ferritin would be at/over 90 also. Don't be fobbed off with just getting your numbers in range. Guest guest
Geraint - next time you see him, copy out the list below and ask him to take these into account next time he has a patient not recovering their health on thyroid hormone replacement. These are just a few of the references to some of the research/studies that have been done to show the association between low levels of nutrients and low thyroid. Low iron/ferritin: Iron deficiency is shown to significantly reduce T4 to T3 conversion, increase reverse T3 levels, and block the thermogenic (metabolism boosting) properties of thyroid hormone (1-4). Thus, iron deficiency, as indicated by an iron saturation below 25 or a ferritin below 70, will result in diminished intracellular T3 levels. Additionally, T4 should not be considered adequate thyroid replacement if iron deficiency is present (1-4)). 1. Dillman E, Gale C, Green W, et al.
