Guest guest
Hi Nerys! " Spent 6 hours at the hospital so a really fun day. " EEeeeeoooohhhhh Yuck! " They injected him with radiation dye, then had to wait for it to go into the bones and then took heaps of pictures, it shows where the hot spots are in your body. " I had a similar thing done called a galium scan which shows the area of inflamation in the body. But my scan was 2 days after the injection, not like your poor hubby's!! I got to go home! Easiest scan I ever had... 6 hours waiting in a hospital.... that is not a great start to any weekend! " Anyway won't know results till 3rd April. " Geez thats a long time for you to have to wait! I hope the test actually shows the problem so at least you know what you are dealing with and can start some treatment for it. " He has got really bad the last couple of days, can't walk and the pain is getting worse in his hip area. He has gone to sleep now, the only time he looks peaceful! " How have you been through all of this? Although fortunately I have not had to look after my partner due to illness, I did watch my friend dye from leukemia. It makes you feel so helpless that there is nothing you can do to fix it. And I see the worry in my hubby's eyes sometimes. It must be so hard for you. But thank god your hubby has you there - even if he is too ill to tell you, know that you make a HUGE difference in his life just by loving him, let alone all the things you do for him. Are you able to get out and have little breaks, have some sort of life yourself? Hang in there Nerys, there is a reason that your Hubby is so ill... they will find it!! Thinking of you! with love Aisha.
Guest guest
Hi : Thanks for posting about Eugene. I am not a doc but I do have some books about meds. Pimozide (Orap) is classifed as a neuroleptic, i.e. drugs which affect the neurotransmitter, dopamine. According to Dr. Koplewicz in his book " It's Nobody's Fault " the neuroleptics are used for getting rid of tics but can have irritating side effects, e.g. drowsiness, weight gain, decreased concentration and impaired memory. He only prescribes neuroleptics when tics are causing great distress and dysfunction. Dr. Jenike lists Pimozide as a possible augmenting agent for treatment resistant OCD. He refers to it as effective and relatively safe, and mentions that " long-term risk for tardive dyskinesia and other extrapyramidal side effects must be weighed against potential efficacy for tics " . According to Dr. Koplewicz there are no studies showing that children are or are not at risk for tardive dyskinesia. Dr. Koran in his book, " Obsessive-compulsive Disorder and related disorders in adults " recommends slow upward titration starting at 0.5 mg/day up to a maximum of 8 mg/day. The manufacturer recommends obtaining an EKG at baseline and that macrolide antibiotics (e.g. erythromycin and clarithromycin) are contraindicated in patients taking pimozide. I hope this information helps. Guest guest
Rashelle's products do a great job of firming that skin up. Guest guest
Hi Donna, I like the cellulite cream. It is the one that has the light smell of strawberries to it. I don't use it as often as I probably should, but when I do use it, I seem to notice a difference. I have re-ordered it several times. (I had a lot of area to cover! Guest guest
Dawn, I'm Gail, I'm currently 38, turning 39 this Spring. I was 36when I gave birth to my twins, and Tara{ds}then turned 37 the month after they were born. I don't know your whole story, but when we found out about Tara they told us it was straight trisomy 21. Were you or your husband ever tested, or asked by a genetist, to be tested for a translocation gene?? Maybe I'm saying this wrong? Bet Sara would know what is right. Guess age could be a factor, but the more mothers I meet who have children with Ds, they are all younger than me! Hey, my mother had my baby sister when she was 40!, I thought I was in the clear when I was pregnant at 36...........guess theres no concrete answers........good luck Gail Mom to Bobby 6 3/4, Jillian 4, and Tara{Ds} 20months > > My name is Dawn and I have two wonderful boys one is six and the other 15mon > our 15 month old ds. Guest guest
Thanks for writing me back Gail, the geniticts told us that our son is the stright trisomy 21 he said it happened right at conception . He also told us that there is know reason for us to be tested. I do not hold to much faith in doctors because after our triple screen came back low my doctor sent me to a fetal medicine doctor who is suppose to be the best in the three state area the did a level two ultrasound every month from my 5 month telling us every thing is fine. He even did not recommend a ammio he was so sure. I wonder if the geniticts can reall tell by our sons blood. I am having the same problems with this pregnancy that I had with my son but not the first son. once again thanks for writing me back. The geniticts also said other sydromes could happen because of having a child with ds. Our 15 month old is not walking just now starting to try and pull him self up. He loves to eat bannans and crackers of junk food. have to stop my6year old is yelling fo me please write me back Dawn Re: Hello everyone > Dawn, I'm Gail, I'm currently 38, turning 39 this Spring. I am not to sure about doctors because we were also told by a specalist that our son did not have downs. When I had the triple screen and it came back low for downs the midwife I had sent me to a fetal medicne doctor who is the best in three states. He did a level two ultra sound from my 4 month ubtil the day before I was due. He was sure there was knowing. And did not think we need a ammio. As for this pregnancy I am having the same symptoms as I did before bleeding and excessive tiredness . I did not have any of this with my first child I was thiry when he was born . thanks for lisening I am rambling I feel like. please write me back thanks Dawn Re: Hello everyone > Dawn, I'm Gail, I'm currently 38, turning 39 this Spring. Guest guest
Dawn, maybe you should have an amniocentesis done to be sure? Could you still have one, not sure how many weeks pregnant you are? Yes, ultrasounds don't always give the info you need. In my case I specifically asked my tech to " look " for signs of DS, the tech didn't find any mainly because Tara's heart was{is} ok, also, she didn't have the extra fold/thickening of skin in the back of the neck. But she does have the seperation of big toe to the rest of her toes, and don't forget about her pinky too! If you are getting ultrsounds, ask " specific " questions like that, that will make the tech zero in on that specfic anatomy.Sometimes you have to educate the tech, they might not really know ALL the physical signs of Ds. Get answers to all your questions. Good luck Gail......Mom to Bobby 6 3/4, Jillian 4, and Tara{Ds} 20 months > > Thanks for writing me back Gail, the geniticts told us that our son is the > stright trisomy 21 he said it happened right at conception . Guest guest
Hi Dawn, I'm glad you got Carolyns name, in NZ. I visited her website and found it wonderful. Welcome to the group. I'm new also, and have 13 month old twins, one with DS. You sound pretty worried and stressed at the possibility of having another child with DS. I can understand, it is a lot of work but a tremendous amount of joy. Maybe it would relieve some of that stress to think about how hard it would be to imagine your life without your second son, and how much joy he brings to you (regardless of the work). I'm sure this next baby will do the same for you, even on the outside chance that he/she also has DS or some other Syndrome. Good luck, and I wish you worry-free holidays. Casey, mom to (DS) and , 13 mo. p.s. when is this baby due?

Guest guest
Gail. I am going to ask a question everyone is not going to like. And I am sorry if it offends you. I know this will sound selfish. I am afraid my 6 year old is going to pushed to the side when the new baby comes not that it would be done. it is just that we have know family near us and only ourselves, myself my husband who is wonderful. He works so hard so I can stay home. And our wonderful little who I am worried will resent this new baby and become angry. Sounds like to much worrying to me. Would you please share some good old wisdom with me. Sorry I am rambling. I seem to do that a lot lately. Dawn Re: Hello everyone Dawn, maybe you should have an amniocentesis done to be sure? Guest guest
Dawn, your concern seems natural to most all Moms on this list when a new baby is on the way. Sounds like your concious about splitting your time up already. The way I combat that is make sure Bobby and Jillian are in activities, so it's not all Tara's school, Tara's therapies at home, Tara's doc appointments.........me " working " with Tara. Your husband needs to come to the rescue. My husband " does " karate with Bobby, also coached Bobby's soccer team this past season. I will be skiing with Bobby this winter, and Jillian too. Jillian attends pre-school 3x/week, and will be signing her up for gymnastics after the holidays. Since is the same age as Tara, there are no outside activites just for him yet, but he gets lots of my attention, hard not to, he's loud! It's a balancing act, no doubt about it! Gail > > Gail. Guest guest
Well I am in the middle of introducing a new baby and living with the three who are now " neglected " i would say my 4 year old is acting out the most. He has become impossible. If he isn't yelling at me he is crying. He loves the baby and is very kind to him but he is vicious to one of the twins....she gives it right back though. I feel badly but I try everyday to spend time with just him and we do " all kids " things....I figure lots of people grew up in big families...I know my mother didn't spend all her time playing with my brother and me and I am all right ( most days) Quinn-4, Sar and Maggie-2 and baby Teddy-6 weeks. Guest guest
Dawn- I know you didnt pose the question to me but I thought I'd give you a little " old " mom advise. My oldest is 3 1/2 years older than the twins. Personally I think six is a much better age because they understand more. Anyway, I made a point of having a " date " with my older child every week. We'd go to the park, out to eat, a movie, just whatever. Getting one sibling was bad enough, but two and one having a disability was alot. I just made sure we involved him in everything: doctor's visits, therapies, feedings, diapers, the whole works and he really seemed to do ok. mom to Rudy (ds) & 14 & TJ
Guest guest
, Thanks for the message, thanks for the advice. My little guy is not walking and just now starting to pull up on things. He refuses to crawl on all fours, but he can get up on them and move back and forth. He will be sixteen months soon and into everything. Any advice given would be of great help. it is alwasys nice to here from other people who have been there and did that.
