Guest guest
1. Weight gain. 10kg in a year and still going. He says this should not be happening.... (bl**dy right, it shouldn't!) 2. Ferritin. I kept banging on about the ferritin and hetold me that ferritin was not within his area of expertise. Actually, he couldn't interpret the serum iron result either. (area of expertise – my foot! Any GP should understand the importance of iron levels)3. The permanent sore throat and the recurring lump in the neck are nothing to do with my thyroid I need to see my GP. (yeah, sure.... there are countless possibilities at that specific location!)He also told me that 30mcg is a large dose of T3, equivalent to 125/150mcg thyroxine, but he didn't reduce the dose, which was my big fear, so that was a small relief. (oh well – he got his maths right...med school has paid off. I am impressed! So now we know... 125-150 mcg of T4 is a laaaaarge dose !)I told him I was still symptomatic and that my temp is still running at a little less than 36 degrees. He asked me why I was taking it. He looked a bit surprised that I was using it as an indicator of my metabolism. (words just fail me.....) Soooo – that was a complete success then, D. !! .....remind me - this was an actual fully qualified endocrinologist, yes????? Oh Lord.... is it surprising that we resort to self-medication? I am sure Sheila will send you her up-to-date list.... meanwhile, if it were me, I would up the T3. You are clearly still under-medicated. But – at the risk of stating the obvious - you also need to find some iron product that you can tolerate. Have you tried "chelated" iron? `Bluebonnet' does one; you can get it from i-herb.
