Guest guest
Hi Hayley >Whats the point in doing the 24hr saliva test when the docs don't beleive in adrenal fatigue?(only addisons and cushings)- so they wont prescribe me cortisol-which is the ONLY(?)real way forward to cure them ready for tackling the hypo-am i right? I'm so confused..... I wouldn't just do the 24hr saliva test, but ideally i would see what the 9am cortisol levels were too, along with ACTH (how hard are the adrenals asked to work), and also CBG levels - cortisol binding globulin ; this affects how much free cortisol is available. I would also do the 24 hour urinary free cortisol test, since i've read that saliva cortisol levels can be low, but urinary free cortiol levels can be normal, due to fast clearance in the body. I have also read that low levels of thyroid hormones will affect the adrenal output. low vitamins and minerals may affect the adrenals too. i was unable to tolerate more than 1/4 of a grain of thyroid for more than a day or two before correcting other nutrient deficiencies such as Vitamin A, ferritin, pregnenolone, vitamin D, copper. If any of these (or other) nutrients are low it'll cause problems with thyroid hormone uptake. some people also take adrenal glandulars to support the adrenals. but some people do need hydrocortisone. but i wouldn't take that without doing proper testing (urine, adrenal, blood) and without proper guidance, and also, taking DHEA to offset the catabolic effects. ideally you'd need very thorough testing but i appreciate that's not possible on the NHS. you can get it easily in belgium, but not on the NHS :-( do you have adrenal symptoms from this list: http://www.hertoghe.eu/patients/index.php?option=com_content & view=article & id=131\ & Itemid=89 & lang=en chris

Guest guest
Hayley Go to our FILES section thyroid treatment/files/ and on the page that opens, scroll down to the ADRENALS folder. Read everything there is in there. Do the adrenals questionnaire and see how you score. Ask y our GP to test your levels of iron, transferrin saturation%, ferritin, vitamin B12, vitamin D3, magnesium, folate, copper and zinc, because if any of these are low in the reference range, no amount of thyroid hormone is able to be fully utilised at the cellular level. Once you get these results, post them here on the forum and we will help with their interpretation. The point of doing the 24 hour salivary adrenal test is NOT to tell your doctor that you have adrenal fatigue, but to convince yourself and to find out what level of cortisol and DHEA you are secreting at four specific times during the day. Your doctor will only recognise 's (too little to no cortisol secretion) and Cushing's (too high a level of cortisol section) and they refuse to recognise any of the stages leading up to either of these two diseases. This is one problem that you have to take into your own hands and diagnose and self treat accordingly. We can help you with this. Low adrenal reserve is easy to treat once you have learned how to do this, so read everything you can. Luv - Sheila Hi everyone, I really need pointing in the right direction. I've been ill with hypo for a staggering 22 yrs (docs mis-diagnosed me) and am quite frankly a mess.My adrenals are very obviously (from my symtoms and basal temp, pupil test etc)majorly stressed.I've also tried taking levothyroxine at two different doses and felt awful at both (classic sign of stressed adrenals,i'm told)I have now given up thyriod meds altogether.I know i need to sort my adrenals first. My question is- Whats the point in doing the 24hr saliva test when the docs don't beleive in adrenal fatigue?(only addisons and cushings)- so they wont prescribe me cortisol-which is the ONLY(?)real way forward to cure them ready for tackling the hypo-am i right? I'm so confused..... I have many other questions, but thought wise to ask one at a time..
