Guest guest
Hi Laurel I was banded by Dr Talbot a couple of months ago and with private health insurance I was out of pocket just over $2850.00 or there abouts. I had to pay $3600 upfront though to begin with. I got about $800 back from medicare and my health insurance. Hope that helps you. Guest guest
Welcome, Leif: Glad to have you here. I'm a mom of 3 ASD boys and there is no personal confusion as to what happened to my family. I appreciate your comment about autism not being one condition. It's clear we need reform in every area for our children. I know you are not giving up on exploring treatment options for your son. Guest guest
Hi Leif, Have you read the book “Evidence of Harm” by Kirby? Pamela " Courage is doing what you're afraid to do. There can be no courage unless you're scared. " Eddie Rickenbacker, top US fighter ace, WWI From: EOHarm [mailto:EOHarm ] On Behalf Of Leif Knutsen Sent: Friday, July 06, 2007 8:31 AM EOHarm Subject: Introducing myself Hi everyone - I recently joined this list, having found it through links to an article about Arthur I recently posted in my blog (http://vyer.typepad.com/hereticsalmanac ). My name is Leif Knutsen. I live in Maplewood, NJ, with my wife and 8-year old twins. My daughter is neurotypical, but my son is classified autistic, following a dramatic regression at 17 months almost immediately following his 18-month vaccinations. We have tried pretty much everything to help : several chelation therapies, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, several restrictive diets, glutathione, supplements, homeopathy, etc., etc. I can't say anything has made a dramatic difference, though it's pretty clear to us that the Specific Carbohydrate Diet has helped him quite a bit. He's on Abilify now, which calms him and helps him sleep; and I'm not discounting that. I started out dismissing the idea that vaccines could have done any damage to , but the more I learn, the more suspicious I get about the risk/benefit trade-offs or vaccinations. I make it my habit to advise all expectant parents to get informed before they vaccinate their kids, and all opt for some kind of modified protocol. My belief, or call it hypotheses, right now, are that: - Autism isn't one condition but a cluster of conditions with differing etiology but vaguely similar symptoms. The diagnosis " autism " to me is as meaningful as " I have a limp when I walk. " - My son's illness was triggered by an environmental shock to his system. Leading suspect is vaccinations, but I'm certainly willing to be convinced it was something else. - I think that public health organizations are consciously or unconsciously terrified about investigating the adverse effects of vaccines in general and thimerosal in particular, because if a link were to be proven, it would lead to a massive confidence crisis against vaccination - I've worked with pharmaceutical companies and HMOs as a consultant, and I tend to discount conspiracy theories about them, because they're generally not organized well enough to be as devious as some might imagine. Which isn't to say they're blameless, but I think their sins are more of omission than commission. I know that the cause and cure for 's illness can be found, and I only hope that it happens soon. Guest guest
Welcome Leif Knutsen. Leif writes: "- I think that public health organizations are consciously or unconsciously terrified about investigating the adverse effects of vaccines in general and thimerosal in particular, because if a link were to be proven, it would lead to a massive confidence crisis against vaccination " ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Unfortunately, our public health organizations (CDC, FDA, HHS) have "self-identified" themselves as "partners" with the vaccine manufacturers they are responsible for "regulating". Can you imagine these same public health organizations calling themselves "partners" with tobacco growers? Any publicly declared "partnership", between government "regulators" and the businessmen they are responsible for "regulating", should be investigated for possible criminal prosecution for professional "mal-feasance, mis-feasance or non-feasance". Indeed, the opening statement of recent vaccine trial began with the apt description of these partners "standing shoulder to shoulder", ostensibly to protect their mutual interests. Who bares responsibility for protecting the public interest? Parents? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- There is no way former Senator Bill Frist and former Congressman Dick Armey were "unconscious" when they snuck that vaccine liability protection clause into the Patriot Act in the dead of night. Therefore, I suspect there is nothing these "partners" do "unconsciously". Absolutely nothing. See what's free at AOL.com.

Guest guest
Well, what about doing pr school at home? It looks like you are a stay at home mom, yes? Preschool is so much fun and all you have to do is LIVE and you're teaching your child. You can learn numbers, shapes and math just by baking cookies. Give them cleaning things kid sized and you're teaching them home ec. Get some flannels for ABC's.. phonics magnets.. preschool is more than worksheets. If the school is private, AFAIK, it will be a fight b/c they set their own rules. So you might be OK and you might not be OK. I had a friend that baby died at 6 days old. Knowing what I know now, it was labeled SIDS too and I wonder, was it really? Another lady at church, 4 months old. Labeled SIDS. Unfortunately you learn too late sometimes. I am absolutely certain that many of those precious little babies whose deaths broke families apart, were from vaccines and I think it's downright criminal that the medical world can just label it SIDS and not be culpable. They ought to be shot and hung up to dry by their pinkie toes. Guest guest
ask the school if they have exemption papers there. If not, go to the health dept. I have just recently moved from Ohio and my kids were in5 different schools. The small Christian school just wanted a letter form me stating exemption due to religious and philosphical reasons and they were good with that. The preschool at the Y I just wrote exempt due to rel and phil on their health card and they were good with that. The public schools I had to get an exemption form from the health dept and altho it wanted explanations, I just checked off the boxes for rel and phil and that was that for them. Then when they switeched schools it went right along with them so i was good to go! I imagine they would be allowed to not accept your child if very private but that is something you would have to ask a lawyer if you feel you are being discriminated against. Guest guest
, I recently moved from Ohio also --- while I was there I had my own " religious exemption " letter that I gave to any doctor or program that required shot records. Guest guest
I'm interested in knowing as well. I have not put my son in daycare for just this reason. If worst comes to worst, I would skip preschool!! in Colo. Guest guest
Interesting. It was a military daycare that refused to give me an exemption and I would assume they get some sort of federal funding! The job is long gone now -- and for the best, but I do find it frustrating that they can " force " you to do something. IN other words, if I didn't have a husband with a decent job, I'd be " forced " to vaccinate my child against my wishes to survive. And that angers me. Guest guest
Hello and all the group, I want to thank you for the warm welcome we received from you. I think that having child with DS changes our life in a very positive way, and the things you told me about your experience goes in this direction, reinforcing my good feelings. I created an album for Zoë in the page of the group - and uploaded only one picture, sorry, but no time now.... - so you can see her. The surgery is approaching and we believe it will happen on Oct. 9. We will know the date for sure tomorrow. We are very confident and your comments about the good perspectives it brings also are important and make me more secure. Thanks for everything and all the best to all of you Marta Taguchi <heatherhunt@...> wrote: Hello Marta, I just want you to know that I will be praying for Zoë and all of you during this time before the surgery. Our 7 month old, Emilia, just had surgery a month ago. We live in Taiwan. She had a successful surgery and then a few other things took place that kept her in the hospital for 25 days. But she is doing really well now and so we are very thankful for this! I'm so thrilled at your attitude about Zoë's Downs...she will continue to be a huge blessing to all of you! In regard to her future...don't think about tomorrow, live in today! And show her the love and acceptance now so that she has a foundation, later in life, to stand on!! She can be used to show many people that love comes in so many different packages! I look forward to hearing how she does! , Mom to Emilia (DS) On Sep 18, 2007, at 8:00 AM, Marta Avancini wrote: Hello everybody, I am Marta, mother to Zoë, a cute little girl who is 9 months old. She has Down Sindrome. We live in Brasília, the capital of Brazil. I am married to Arian, a Dutch man who decided to start a new life in Brazil, and also mother to o, 1,9 year. I am part already of two lists about DS in Brazil, but I felt like joining an international list - to exchange feelings, impressions, information. To have a child with DS has never been a problem for me. When I received the news, still in the hospital, I looked outside and saw a beautiful blue sky and I thought to myself: " This can't be anything bad " . In fact, Zoë has brought a lot of good things to us. With her, our family feeling has become stronger. But I do fear for her future, for the prejudice she will, eventually, have to face. Now we are going through a difficult time. She needs a heart operation, because she has two " wholes " in her heart. Since she was born we knew about her heart condition, but the exames showed that the " wholes " were small. The exams were wrong and the whole that was classified as " insignificant " has 12 mm. No comments. Brazil can be a crazy country. But now we transfered her to São o, where the health assistance is much better than in Brasília, and she is in good hands. We believe she will be operated next week. Thanks for allowing me (us...) in the group. All the best Marta --------------------------------- Pinpoint customers who are looking for what you sell. Well, I tried making a paste a few months ago just using beeswax and didn't like the feel of it. So, I added a bit of castor oil and some black cumin seed oil - melted them together with a bit of shaved amber resin. The blend of fragrance was patchouli, clove, frank and myrrh, sandalwood, cassia, vetiver - I think I added a couple of other things, but I was playing around and didn't keep track. Next time, I will....I think it's heavy on the vetiver, but seems to work alright with my own chemistry. I like spicy - both in foods and fragrance. After reading your blog and the comments from the group, I feel a bit intimidated - but, I am not one to back down from a challenge. This natural perfumery is like learning a language from another culture and becoming familiar with the food from that area. I have SO MUCH to learn - and it should be an interesting adventure for me. I love to cook, so I'll approach learning about natural perfumes in the same way I learned how to cook. I am fortunate to have a friend who is a gourmet cook and she taught me so much when I was in my 20s. I was also fortunate to live in the SF Bay area when the wines of Sonoma and Napa were making their mark - and the area is one of wonderful restuarants and food sources. Foodies love it! I watched the cooking shows all of the time and tried all different kinds of food - and started collecting cookbooks and reading them like novels. I wish there were perfume shows on TV or the Internet! I will begin collecting some of the books mentioned in the files - I do have some on aromatherapy already. Although I've never explored the chemistry of food, I'll make a valiant attempt not to run away like a frightened child when that comes up in the natural perfume conversations! Guest guest
Kathy- Forgot to tell you one of my favorite things about your perfume - not only was it long lasting, but it was beautiful. I think it was the perfect texture and a very lovely color against the tin. It helped me through a rough time with my mother-in-law over the holidays. Thanks again. She is very humble about her blend as I believe it is one of her first. She made it with a base of beeswax, castor oil, and black cumin oil. Oils and resins used were amber shavings, vetiver, cassia, patchouli, frankincense, mhyrr, and some other unmentioned stuff. The initial scent is very cinnamony and powerfully sweet, but it dries down to a really nice rounded, earthy, spicy sweet blend. the color of the perfume is almost rootbeer brown - with a touch of olive. I love it and it takes me to a pretty cool place when I wear it (on my ankles)- as all of my trades have so far. I have been so overjoyed at what everyone has offered for some spruce oil (sage tincture, wormwood, winter lip balms (thank you sooo much mj!), helichrysum abs. (sweet- hay-honey-sugar-green-stem-gorgeousness), blue lotus tincture, cedarwood soap, the list goes on... These new fragrances now characterize this rapid growth time of my life, and have connected me to some really great people. I encourage anyone on this list to trade - it is a great way to obtain new samples and special stuff when funds are low, or when you just want a surprise or two. Time seems to warp speed during this season of the year! I was touched and inspired by Jess and her story of the Queen Sitka Spruce which had fallen during the storms. She offered to trade some of the distillation for a creation by other people. I took her up on it and sent her a tin of my first attempt at a perfumed paste. Jess is very generous in both spirit and her praise of my perfume. A friend of mine made a creation that I loved and I asked her to share the recipe/ ingredients with me, which she did - but as she is so familiar with scents and blends, she rattled them off like I would rattle off my recipe for a killer marinara sauce - no real measurements as she measures " by hand " as she calls it. The result was much spicier than hers and the texture was different, too. For my first real attempt at blending, it turned our alright - I am going to play around some more with it and see what happens. The tin was just a metal 1 oz tin and the color of the paste was a rich brown. Anya, I don't have a website; I wouldn't even know what to put on a website as I am a novice playing around right now with the art of scent - I love this group because of the wealth of information here and the willingness to share. It helps me get through my basic intimidation of the subject and for that, I am grateful. All the best for the new year! ~Kathy

I think its great .... just like a good food recipe that your friend rattled off some ingredients for which gave you the confidence to make up and became altered slightly with amounts and then sent as a trade for another lovely oil ...... love that .... has a really good synergy..... Guest guest
welcome to the group kyie. i had the same experience with my daugther's first allopathic ped. I fired him before he got out of control on me though... started taking her to a holistic chiro and couldn't be happier. we are also blessed to have a new holistic minded pediatrician on record with the insurance company " just in case " , but we really have no use for him as our primary care comes from chiro. since the guilt trips are going to get more intense as you continue to do well-baby visits, i would suggest you (1) avoid well-baby visits esp. since your child is clearly thriving... (2) start looking for a parent-choice friendlier ped. or see a naturopath/chiro. and (3) as far school exemptions go... why not use the religious exemption since it is available to you? good luck. ari Arianna Mojica - (UCC 1-207/1-103) ~~~ " All rights not demanded are presumed waived " . ~ Thurston ~~~ " The only safe vaccine is a vaccine that is never used " -- Dr. A. , National Institutes of Health ~~~A truth¢s initial commotion is directly proportional to how deeply the lie was believed...When a well-packaged web of lies has been sold gradually to the masses over generations, the truth will seem utterly preposterous and its speaker, a raving lunatic. I live in the New york City area. I joined this group because I am starting to get a lot of pressure to " protect " Raffi from diseases by vaccinating him. My pediatrician had initially been pretty okay with our not vaccinating, primarily because I used the word " defer " when we initially came to see her. Now that he is over 1 she seems to think it is time to start, and has been scaring me with Hib meningitis and other dread diseases. Even though I have read that breastfed babies rarely get this. I am really happy to have found this group, and am avidly reading all the info available. I especially like that there are so many MD's weighing in on the side of not vaccinating. I think that there just is no information given about the dangers in med school. My OBGYN didn't even know about Thimerosol in vaccinations, when i asked her about whether it was in RoGam when i was pregnant. (Never did get an answer by the way...) My own experience is that every single friend of mine with vaccinated kids of the same age has been to the emergency room by now, for either an unexplained fever, ear infection, etc. My son has had the usual colds, stomach bugs etc, but always recovers pretty quick, and has never been to the ER. He's never had an ear infection. I would welcome advice on how to deal with the school issue; I know that is just around the corner for us, and NY state does not have a philosophical opt-out, only religious. Guest guest
Hi Kylie, I would recommend stop going to your ped. My son is 16 months/unvaccinated and in great health. After his 6 month appt. with a naturopath I realized it was a waste of time and money and he hasn't been to a doctor since. He is growing just fine and is happy so it seems pointless for me to take him. He did get sick once right after his 1 year birthday with what I believe was roseola. He had a strong fever for about 24 hours but then it was over without any medications. If you don't want to give vaccines you probably don't want to give antibiotics or any other chemical meds., so an allopathic ped. is kind of pointless. Look for a naturopathic doc. or chiro. as they will probably not push the vaccines. > > Hi All, > My name is Kylie, and I am a mother to a healthy unvaccinated 14 month old boy who is > still breastfeeding. Guest guest
Welcome all - so glad you are here. I am the mother of a vaccine injured child. I stopped vaccinating my son at 6 mos. Thankfully (what the h*** am i saying) he was falling off the growth charts and missed milestones following the 4th month DTap - and whatever else was shot into him that day. Before this apt. we was starting to hold his bottle (i was breastfeeding and pumping) but after he was simply a lump of cutness. He had a huge reaction - the same one I've read over and over again.. the beginning of the end. The nurse said to give him Tylenol (STUPIDITY) and that it was normal to have dilated eyes, unconsolable screaming, arched back, high fever. FYI. the unconsolable screaming was the pain from his BRAIN SWELLING! I did not take him to the ER, which I knew would have only made matters worse. Because my boy did not progress into full blown autism - he's not counted so any idiot who makes the claim that Autism is over diagnosed is just another idiot. I listned to the mainstream, which was basically a big question mark, sorry about your luck, and a scripts to " therapy " . So I did that... but I'm no young chick - and my bs radar was going off constantly. One day, when he was a physical MESS, barely had 50 single unintellible words at 3.5 I got my self into gear. I cut out all " therapy " as they are largely working out of a 1950's playbook. Waste of time, waste of money and so insulting. I found myself a rescue angel (www.generationrescue.org) and the healing and education began. My son is now 5.5 - nearly recovered after thousands of dollars, quit my job to committ to educating myself. We have done 80 hyperbaric oxygen dives - and about to start 40 more. This requires us to leave our home for a month - the cost to all out of pocket. But, no therapy can come close to repairing the brain damage. I want my kids IQ back - and hyperbaric oxygen can do it. So that's a abbreviated war story... so glad you Mom's are listening to your instincts. Also, I just had another boy - he's 6 weeks old. I wouldn't allow vit K, or the eye stuff and certainly no vaccines. I went prepared with my own waivers and documents... and I didn't need any of it. The staff just let me do what I wanted w/o any hassle. My Ped. is a young guy, and from my observation he's got a clue but no where near where he should be. They still hand out tylenol as if it's going out of style, and when i mentioned the link to families with autoimmune issues he was clueless. The AMA is making huge efforts to keep our Peds " in line " . The Ped and I have what I call a non verbal " understanding " . I call myself a granola cruncher, he laughs, and there is NO mention of vaccinating either of my sons ever again. My best advise in regard to dealing with the public is to be polite, non confrontational and smile as you hand them your exemption. YOU MUST know your rights, refuse to engage with anyone your reasons for opting out. Do what you can in your state to maintain your rights to choose. Get involved!
