Guest guest
Latest blood test results from Genova Diagnostics: Total thyroxine 100 (58-154) - normal TSH 3.51 (0.4 - 4.0) - high end of normal Free T4 15.6 (10-22) Free T3 4.23 (2.8 - 6.5) Free T4 to free T3 ratio 3.7 (2.0 - 4.5) Reverse T3 0.56 (0.14 - 0.54) - high Thyroglobulin <20 (0-40) peroxidase (tpo) 164 (0-35) I could do with help working out whether both fT4 and fT3 look optimised and what I need to do about the reverse T3 reading. I know that the high peroxidase reading shows that I have autoimmune disease but I would really appreciate help working out whether this would be lower if my thyroid had reached the point where it has destroyed itself? Does a high TPO reading mean anything else? Thanks so much for your help as always

Does a high TPO reading mean anythingHi, What is your history? Which thyroid meds are you taking and how much? ...and no, your FT4 and fT3 are not optimal, because you do have rT3. This means that the FT3 you are looking at is to a large degree rT3. Your T3 is not getting inside your cells. Can you give us a little more information on your history, please? But yes, you do suffer from Hahimoto's disease. With best wishes,
Guest guest
Thanks for replying . I have Hashimotos, probably for about 11. I've been on levothyroxine for about 3 yrs, Tsh levels have never been stable and doses increased and decreased too many times to mention. Back in June I woke up to find I couldn't feel my toes, had tingling in my arms, palpitations, muscle and bone pain in my legs. I thought my dose was too low. My Consultant didn't think these symptoms were related to my thyroid at all but agreed to increase my dose from 75 mcg/ 100 mcg on alternate days to 100 mcg every day. I felt well over the summer and those symptoms all disappeared. By November I was REALLY ill, ended up at a & E with racing heart, palpitations, adrenalin surges, sickness etc. I had become hyper ( not sure why when my dose hadn't changed since June! Maybe due to the recalled Teva levo?). Since then my meds have been dropped to 75mcg per day but now I feel really hypo. Current dose way too low, next incremental dose up way too high! I have an appointment with Dr P at the beginning of March and these tests are in preparation for that. I'm also awaiting the results of a 24 hr saliva test ( at Xmas my 24 hr saliva test showed an elevated cortisol load of 61 range 23-42, high DHEA, depressed insulin and depressed SIgA). I have low but in range ferritin (37 ug/ l range 10-420, B12 (246 ng/ l range 220-700) and vit D (15 ng/ l range 50 -75) and have been supplementing these to raise values. On the whole I feel much better than I did back in Nov but I am far from well. I'm trying to work out what I should do next. Does it look like I have a problem converting t4 to t3? I have also been jaundiced 3 times since November which my GP attributes to Gilberts syndrome ( I don't think I have gilbert's syndrome, I think the high bilirubin levels are caused by my uncontrolled thyroid!). Previous recent test results: 21/9/11. Tsh 0.75. Free t4 22 1/11/11. Tsh 0.29. Free t4 20 (hyper) 29/11/11. Tsh 3.4 (0.27-4.2). Free T4. 20.3 (12-22). Free t3 (3.1-6.8) 20/12/11. Tsh 2.8 > > Total thyroxine 100 (58-154) - normal > > TSH 3.51 (0.4 - 4.0) - high end of normal > > Free T4 15.6 (10-22) > > Free T3 4.23 (2.8 - 6.5) > > Free T4 to free T3 ratio 3.7 (2.0 - 4.5) > > Reverse T3 0.56 (0.14 - 0.54) - high > > Thyroglobulin <20 (0-40) > > peroxidase (tpo) 164 ( > > Hi, What is your history?
