Guest guest
Gretchen: I wanted to reply to your querry about chickenpox. This is just my opionion....so please bear in mind when it comes to things like pregnancy, I am at the extreme end of the spectrum in terms of not taking any risks. I don't want to worry you, but as you seem to know, chickenpox in a newborn is a very serious illness if the baby is not nursing or else is, but his mother has never had chickenpox. If I were seven months pregnant and had never had the illness.....I would NOT be putting my other children into any situation where they were likely to encounter either the illness or a newly vaxed child. I would also be concerned for myself too. My understanding of pregnancy is that a pregnant women has a DECREASED immunity during pregancy. This is part of the body's mechanism for reducing the likelyhood of her mounting an immune response to her child (half of whom's DNA is totally foreign) Think about who they always caution about food poisoning....small children, the elderly, those with a compromised immune system and PREGNANT women. My own personal experience pregant is that I was more suseceptilble to colds when pregant.
