Which test should I go for?

Hi Pam, you need to

ask your GP to test your levels of iron, transferrin saturation, ferritin,

vitamin B12, vitamin D3, magnesium, folate, copper and zinc. If any of

these are low in the range, the thyroid hormone (not even your own) can be

fully utilised at the cellular level. You need to get the results when they

have come back together with the reference range for each of the tests done and

post them on the forum so we can help with their interpretation. Many doctors

will just tell you that you don't have a problem if they are returned any where

within the reference range. We need to know whether they are at the bottom, the

middle or the top of the range, as this matters.

Yes, you have

Hashimoto's disease. This is the cause of your hypothyroidism. Thyroid

antibodies see your thyroid gland as public enemy number one and set about its

complete destruction. This can take months to years, but the end result is you

need thyroid hormone replacement for the rest of your life.

You might want to

check out the three questionnaires in our FILES SECTION. Go to the Home Page of

this web site, and click FILES in the Menu. On the page that opens, click

'Medical Questionnaires'. Depending on the answers you give, you will get an

idea whether you might have an adrenal, candida or magnesium problem. Only then

decide whether or not you wish to pay for a private test form Genova

Diagnostics to look into these deeper.

I had saliva and thyroid bloods done August 2010 Genova Labs) but very little

since, what tests would you suggest I would need as being the most important at

the moment? Iron? RT3? T?hyroid update

In 2010 my TPO was 159 (range 0-35 Iu/mL) does this mean I could have

hashimotos?

Hope this is clear and will be happy to send any more info I may have left out.

With grateful thanks

Pam
