Guest guest
Hi Everyone I am sooo so pleased to have found this group.. I've just been recently diagnosed with Autoimmune Thyroiditis after 10 years of trips to the doctors and the list is endless for what i have been tested for. I started with a period of hyperthyroid which took them 2 years to diagnose and was prescribed carbimazole then went downhill from there as although my results were slighly low they were deemed not low enough for thyroxine and you do trust your doctor to know things and i just went on what he said gradually feeling worse and worse. Ive been told early menopause at the age of 35 and prescribed HRT. Been told Stress and virtually laughed at by the doctor when i insisted on a cardiogram to check out my chest pains. Told stress yet again and possible ulcer so was prescribed Omeprezole. Pains in my joints tested for arthirtis. Swollen knees arthiritis test yet again. Then sent for lumbar puncture and MRI scan to test for MS. Depresssion and many many more. Then we got a new doctor at the surgery only young from med school whom i went to see because i had a sore tongue..he diagnosed anemia tested for it plus thyroid and full blood count. saw my levels were low and wanted to test for antibodies and now at last a proper diagnosis. He also discovered after more tests that i have celiac disease which is quite ironic as i had told my old doc on numerous occasions that i felt ill if i ate bread. So now am embarking on my new diet taking my levothyroxine only 25mcg to start with and hoping that at last i can slowly start to try and get my life back. xx
Guest guest
Hi Debby. Yep, sounds like you've been through the mill.... also typical hashimotos with the hyper and then the hypo - putting you on carbimazole was a bad unesessary move. You are taking a couple of things which interfere with uptake of thyroid hormones..... the first one being omeprazole.... are you taking this for acid reflux? if so, consider having a look at the complete opposite problem.... acid reflux is commonly caused by too little acid and the remedy is to take betaine HCL, it's common with hypothyroidism and often treated wrongly by the docs. here's a link which explains it all: http://www.drmyhill.co.uk/wiki/Hypochlorhydria there is also information in the files (on the left hand side of the page here: thyroid treatment The extra estrogen in HRT also messes up transportation of thyroid hormones.... are you absolutely sure you are short of estrogen? It's progesterone which dissapears at menopause and this can be remedied wth progesterone cream..... here's another link: http://www.wellsprings-health.com/ Gluten intolerance goes hand in hand with thyroid problems too.... Guess you have a lot to read, and take in..... you are on a very baby dose of thyroid hormones...... hopefully you are being tested every 6 weeks? a normal replacement dose is somewhere between 150 and 200 mcg per day.... Welcome to the forum! . x > > Hi Everyone > I am sooo so pleased to have found this group.. Guest guest
Hi Yes i certainly have a lot to read up on. Also the doctor told me to test again in 3 months not 6 weeks so guess i'll be paying them an earlier visit. He said the low dose was so my heart could get used to my new metabolic rate. Since ive been gluten free i've not needed to take the Omeprazole and i threw the HRT in the dustbin years ago because i knew it was'nt doing anything. xx > > Hi Debby. > > Yep, sounds like you've been through the mill.... also typical hashimotos with the hyper and then the hypo - putting you on carbimazole was a bad unesessary move.
