Guest guest
Hi Lori Welcome Visiting my parents right now in Tucson! Guest guest
Wahh. Go figure. There's several I have in mind here in Tucson....may I ask which one isn't taking new patients? You can email me privately if need be. You're right about the stupid doctors visits....vaxes are ALL they are for. I'm paranoid about CPS though.....I do it for a paper trail so in case for some odd reason my parenting decisions about no vaxing and refusing certain forms of medical treatments come back to haunt me, they can see that yes, I care about my son. That's the only reason why I've taken him, however wrong that reasoning may be lol. Lori Tucson, AZ

Gee, I didn't know we had a lot of liquor distilleries. Maybe that's a good thing! LOL! I live in Deltona, which is half way between Orlando and Daytona Beach. I'm not near Haines City. There used to be some kind of huge orange processing facility in Orlando downtown area. I'd drive into work on I-4 and the smell would sicken me. It was really nasty. They were processing orange juice concentrate back then (80's)and who knows what else. I don't believe they are in operation any longer. There is still an area in Clermont where some oranges are grown, where the Citrus Tower is. Perhaps they process the EOs there. Mel

I had to reply specifically because from your bio we have a lot in common, including an obvious affection for a certain highly intelligent black bird. :-) I agree completely about the power of scent, especially in spiritual work. I don't have the skill of many members of this list and at the moment my creations are all-natural room sprays, not proper perfumes, but someday, with what I learn here, that'll change. I'm also a color therapist and all the color therapy systems I use (both ColourWorks and Aura-Soma) incorporate scent very prominently. I hope you enjoy the list! Let me tell you that you are in the right place to learn about natural perumery. Here you will find, guidance, support, advice, answers, tools, great resources and wonderful comradery. If you are looking for a good course recommendation I am doing Mandy Aftels Level 1 course http://www.aftelier.com/perfumeworkbook.html. actually I am getting ready to submit my work for grading. I highly recommend the course. I recommend getting the workbook and the kit of essences. It's something about the way the course is laid out, it's very simple and it takes commitment and hard work but follow it strictly without trying to rush ahead and make a perfume. It all starts to come together and make sense. IMO it's worth every single cent. Anyway's enjoy the group, and Happy Christmas! I started off with oil and solids then moved onward to alcohol and am glad that I did. I believe Alfred mentioned in the last couple of weeks how nice it is to add a little spritz to the hair or lightly on the clothing..can't do that very well with the oil base.. If you are using an oil base you can infuse the herb or flower on a low heat in a double boiler..sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't because of the dreadful volatility...you can leave in a jar to infuse for 6 weeks or so but almost impossible to mix the tincture with the oil and if you have added h20 to the tincture then there is the bacteria problem and oh what a problem...better if you have a tincture use an alcohol base and oil infused with oil base..my quite humble opinion is that I love my oil bases love my solids more but it wouldn't be the same without my eau de parfum sprays.. I don't doubt the truth of your statement, and I will use your tip, but would like to add that I have several oil-based perfumes that seem to contain a lot of citrus oils...and no, I agree that maybe they don't bloom AS much, but the experience is fine enough for my current tastes. But then again, I usually don't reach for high-citrus perfumes anyway. If I'm inspired to make one, maybe I'll switch over to alcohol for that particular blend. >I started off with oil and solids then moved onward to alcohol and am >glad that I did. Not as effective with oil (especially if it's the sort of oil that could go rancid)...I may agree. A little on a palm with a tad extra jojoba to facilitate distribution would do as well. I'm guessing so since I use jojoba for shine in my hair (and I can get it pretty evenly distributed with ease) if it's needed after doing a vinegar rinse in place of conditioner. BTW, a vinegar (diluted) rinse is one of the best ways to whip straw-like (which is what mine was) hair back into shape. Throw some essential oils for hair shine, anti-dandruff etc. in the mix and...your hair will smell and look delightfully fresh and plump...youthful. > If you are using an oil base you can infuse the herb or flower on a >low heat in a double boiler..sometimes it works and sometimes it >doesn't because of the dreadful volatility... I'll try the long infusion. Sounds like a good plan. I've got great news from an experiment of mine... Inspired by the delighful Siam Benzoin I recently received from Eden Botanicals, I tried an infusion/tincture combination. And it worked very well. Here's what I did. I first suspended (through vigorous shaking) 3 drops of Everclear (though at some point I might switch over to a completely water-less alcohol if I continue working with oil bases) in 25 drops of organic jojoba (which had a fairly strong odor...stronger than that which I purchased from Eden Botanicals last year). Once the alcohol remained suspended for 4 hours, I decided to add 1 lg. drop-equivalent of thick Siam Benzoin resin + 2 more drops of Everclear. My hope was that the alcohol would dissolve the benzoin and that the alcohol would remain suspended in the jojoba. So I shook vigorously to break up the resin. Then I capped the sample vial. Over the next day, the resin appeared to settle again. And so I was disappointed. But then, two days later I opened the vial and tested the oil up top...spread it on my skin and was rewarded handsomely with a strong mouth-watering benzoin aroma. Then frustrated with the 'sediment', I shook up the vial and the resin, to my surprise, blended perfectly and quickly into the oil. From there, I just had to take another sample for my skin. About an hour later, a tad bit of resin has settled out again, but this time I have no fear. >better if you have a tincture use an alcohol base and oil infused >with oil base..my quite humble opinion is that I love my oil bases >love my solids more but it wouldn't be the same without my eau de >parfum sprays.. Actually, I can see what you mean about alcohol. My room and linen fresheners need it. Happy new year to you, too! I see that I didn't take enough time with this one...All of the oils are volatile because they are natural...their volatility is in a way how we are able to smell the essence when the oil hits the air the oxidation reaction occurs and the oil disperses...citrus oils otr top notes the most volatile and base notes the least..when you infuse an oil with heat it increases its volatility and many times you loose the scent..or most of it...why in the summer or warm weather we smell more fragrances than we will typically in the winter...I forgot to add if you infuse an herb or root or flower in oil make sure that it has been dried first. Any water in oil creates bacteria and you don't want your oil based to go off and become rancid...this is what I meant by problem with volatility but yes uncapped container will do the same...I have a glass blower that I work with and creating fitted jewel pieces have posed small problems in creating perfume bottles..so we were on the same track with volatility I was just coming from a different point sorry I wasn't more clear:). > >>you can leave in a jar to infuse for 6 weeks or so but almost >>impossible to mix the tincture with the oil and if you have added h20 >>to the tincture then there is the bacteria problem and oh what a >>problem... > > I'll try the long infusion. I don't pay attention to the rules a lot as I am not "on a diet" - I want to say have you considered increasing your calories just a bit for a few days to a week to get your metabolism to move?? This sounds wacked, but that is what they recommend to us at Curves - just enough to gain a pound or two, then decrease your calories again to get back on the losing side of things. I weigh 288 right now and sparkpeople.com recommends I have about 2000 calories a day (that seems too high, but whatever).... anyway, maybe try adding a snack or something small - don't go crazy - just an extra 100-200 calories a day for a few days and then take it back out... or increase your exercise. Something. I love to get and share healthy snack and meal ideas. I know my biggest problem is nighttime snacking... AAAGGGHHH! Is there something you can do at night to alleviate this snacking? Try a piece of fruit, it may curb the cravings? Or go for a small walk?? I know the past couple of days I have had a piece of fruit before dinner and notice I don't go to town eating after dinner - then again, both nights I walked a lot too... (( so wishy washy )) I have lost 5 pounds in the week since I started this, but know I need some support system to keep me motivated. WOoOOOOHOOOOOoooo - see?! Something is working, so getting on here and checking with us every once in a while might just be what you need. How are dh and the kidlet? Does he (they) support your goals, needs, etc? I am sure he must (I hope) since you have already lost the size of a person!! Keep up the great work!!
Guest guest
- walking is the BEST way to start your exercise. You will get stronger and stronger as you go. Make sure your walking shoes are in good shape, and just GO for it!!! Regarding the calorie level - 1200 sounds really low. It might be okay as you get close to your goal weight, but I would bet almost anything that you will find yourself REALLY hungry on that level of calories. You want to make sure and keep your calories high enough that your body doesn't think it is starving and get rid of muscle instead of fat. Remember, your heart is a major muscle! Anyway, you might want to try aiming for around 1500 calories a day or even a little more if you start working out hard. At 266, this should be plenty low enough to result in at least a 1-2 pound per week loss - ON AVERAGE. Good luck!!! > > Hello all, > I wanted to introduce myself. I am from Washington State... Guest guest
, I agree with twinmom2701. Even though you might loose weight at the beginning faster you do not have much room to lower your calorie intake once you lost a bit of weight. STart with 1500 cal and for every 20 lb cut 50 calories.... -- Re: Introduction - walking is the BEST way to start your exercise. You will get stronger and stronger as you go. Guest guest
Some doctors do recommend snacking or more several small meals throughout the day to speed up your metabolism. I heard that you should have something every few hours and to never go more than 6 hours without eating something. To alleviate the wrong kinds of snacks, pick something out that you like that are healthy, chicken breast baked and cut into strips, sliced cucumbers, broccoli, carrots, celery and peanut butter, hard boiled eggs. Have them prepared and ready for when you get that craving and it will help you soo much! Shirley in COABrite@... wrote: In a message dated 1/4/2007 7:33:17 P.M.
