Guest guest
My computer has been giving me some problems (I think it is because of an overloaded inbox with all the messages from the I am on, but that is a good thing!), so I am not as active on this list as I would like, but I just recently stopped nursing my Peanut who is 43 months old (will be 4 on October 11) about two weeks ago. I was unsure how it was going to go, so I didn’t say anything yet, but she is doing fine. I was so afraid that she wouldn’t be able to sleep (as I had *always* nursed her to sleep) or she would cry a lot (and we do *not* do CIO) or that she would start getting sick, but, so far, none of that has happened. She still “forgets” sometimes and reaches to pull down my shirt at night, but I just gently remind her, and she just goes right back to sleep or, if she is more awake, says “oh, yeah; I forgot. (giggle)” No one IRL seems to understand why I would be sad about her finally stopping the nursing, but I am. My little baby who was only 5 pounds at birth is now tall enough at 3 ½ to be confused with a 5 year old! My tiny little girl who would cry “ma-ma” at 3 months is now telling me stories that she made up and is pretending to read to our dog and our chickens, and already consistently recognizes 14 of the 26 letters of the alphabet! She is growing up too fast! I just needed to share with some Mamas who I know will understand! Kim in Ventura, CA Wife to Port (12-19-01) Mama to Peanut (born safely at home, unassisted, 10-11-04) “Mama” to Cory (2 year old Shepherd mix girl), Godiva (4 year old mini-Lop bunny girl) and 3 girl Bantam chicks (Spirit, Girlfriend, and Mama Horsey – cuz what else would you name chicks after but horses?! – hee-hee!) & our newest additions Rain & Flicka (our Millie Fleur chicks – love the feathery feet!) Re: Introduction Good to have you aboard, Deedee, welcome! I commend you for breastfeeding for as long as you have. It's always nice to hear of others who are like-minded. I'm the " kook " in my family for still breastfeeding my toddler, eating as naturally as possible, not vaxing (for that I'm more than a kook, I'm also irresponsible and I'm abusing my child...), etc. I currently still breastfeed my 28 month old, as well as my newborn, and I know it will be a truly heartbreaking (although maybe slightly relieving) day when my toddler decides he doesn't need mama's milk anymore. I look forward to seeing more from you; I'm sure you will contribute much to our group!
Guest guest
Hi, Kim. Why did you stop nursing her? It's okay to go on until she gives it up. Guest guest
Hi, Winnie. Honestly, I was ready for a break. She nursed exclusively until she was 11 months old (no bottles, no pacifiers, no sippy cups, nada), and now she is a fabulous eater (she loves steak, chicken, broccoli, tomatoes (a lot!), fish of all kinds (even raw oysters occasionally! Weird kid!), etc. She used to want to nurse almost constantly over night and for 30-40 minutes every morning when I just desperately wanted to get up and go potty(!), and she has already had to have dental work done due to a cracked tooth from a fall, etc. I actually wrote this message about two weeks ago, and I just finished it last night and sent it without changing much, but some has changed since then. Now I am letting her nurse if she wants, but I limit it to a few minutes, so I am still making milk, and she is still getting some of the immune boost. She is sleeping better without waking up all hours to have more " nummy nums " , and she only wakes up one time a night to go potty a few days a week, so it is better for me and dh (we cosleep), and her naps are easier, too. I always said I wanted to let her self-wean, and I guess I am trying to just modify that concept a little, so we are both happy. It is really working well for us, and she doesn't get upset or cry at the times I do say no, and she is pleasantly surprised and happy when I say yes, so everything is going great, I think. I want to expose her to chicken pox (once I get dh onboard), and I want her to still have that option to nurse when she is not feeling well. Thanks for the support and encouragement, Winnie! Guest guest
Hi and wellcome Just curious. What information (proof) do you have that any vaccine prevents disease. Jim O' Founder of S.I.N.B.A.D. Shots in body's are dangerous Introduction Hello everyone! I am new to this list (i've been browsing the past few days but hadn't a chance to post yet). I have several hats (as do we all I'm sure) I am a mom to 1 year old ; I am an early intervention physical therapist and special educator, and I co-lead a local chapter of the Holistic Moms Network here in Northern VA. So I come to this group seeking support and information on all of these fronts. We have selectively vaccinated thus far. Since there has been some discussion of newborn procedures lately, I'll add my 2 cents. The " eye goop " is no longer silver nitrite - it is an antibiotic ointment. We felt that Vitamin K was important only if we had a boy that we would circumcise in the hospital (lots of " ifs " - we did not know the sex of the baby and were on the fence about circumsicion, so we left that open to discussion after the baby was born - we had a girl) At our hospital, we could waive any or all of the newborn procedures without too much fuss. Especially with the Hep B, our midwives, pediatricians and the hospital staff seemed really unconcerned with our decision to decline. I have found that well baby checks have been fine - but I have worked with babies for many years and feel very comfortable with the care and the individuality of that care. I think without that experience I would be very confused and intimidated by some of the docs. I do sometimes wonder why I go, and have the same weight discussions about my baby that some of you have mentioned here. I have found that honesty and partnering with them has helped with our discussions about vaccines, sleeping, eating, etc. They hear me and I hear them and we (DH and I) make good decisions with information to back it up. As we go along, I am hoping to glean research and alternative perspectives from this group not only for my own parenthood journey, but for the many other parents I see in one capacity or another. Guest guest
Welcome, Laurie! Good point about not being intimidated because you have experience with babies. I know I was clueless how to take care of them and did follow the lead of the docs. It's all so new, parents really want to do the right thing and for many of us, that included vaccinating. I'm so glad you are having a good relationship with your ped. I'm sure he/she will learn a lot from you! Guest guest
Thanks for the welcome! I know every parent wants to and is doing the best they know and the best they can for their child at any given time. It is very hard when the way you want to parent is not the way that many people expect (in terms of breastfeeding, diapering, vaccinations, cosleeping, what have you) It is wonderful to have the support of others as you make decisions that are right for your family. Guest guest
Great another pediatric Physical Therapist!!! Welcome to the group! Right now I am working in the geriatric population but fully intend on getting back to kiddos soon :-) My first job was at a large hospital in Tulsa, OK. I was the PT for the NICU and also worked in all other areas as well. It was always awful for those poor babies after they were vaccinated. First they are usually tiny (premies), immune comprimised either because of their prematurity, infections and stress of the enviroment. The other thing I always thought was not right was that a baby who was born say at 28 weeks (3 months early) followed the same vacciation schedule as a full term baby???? So here are these babies in the NICU that weight 3-4 pounds that are getting the full reccomended vaccines plus the flu and RSV vaccine in the fall and winter. I can not tell you how many times that a baby who was doing fine one day and the awful the next. Come to find out that they had been vaxed the day before and were now lethargic or screaming!!! Maybe this is why Autism/ ADD/ADHD is higher in the premie population??? I only wish I would have realized that I shoulod apply these findings to my own kids before Caden was damaged from them :-( How many children do you see that parents say they were fine and the they " changed " one day? Very sad. Welcome! andrea > > Hello everyone! > I am new to this list (i've been browsing the past few days but hadn't > a chance to post yet). Guest guest
Hi there, We are glad you're here. Keep us informed as you learn more about your PA. You should be very thankful for that young physician's assistant you found. Sounds like you've had PA for 30 years. Val From: hyperaldosteronism [mailto:hyperaldosteronism ] On Behalf Of sollywally Hello All - It is difficult to sort out how to introduce myself. I have been treated for high blood pressure for over 30 years. The treatments were relatively unsuccessful. When we moved to Idaho from California a bit over two years ago, my age became an issue in finding a doctor. I chose a young P.A. for my primary care. After reviewing all the data I brought with me, he was not comfortable with keeping on with the treatment I had been prescribed. He told me that he suspected something else was going on since my potassium levels were always so low. He ordered a bunch of blood work, an MRI and sent me to an endocrinologist for confirmation of his suspicions. The diagnosis was confirmed. He also sent me to a nephrologist because my kidney function was less that perfect. That is also being monitored and is improving. I want to get off more of the blood pressure medicine and feel better without the roller coaster effect I get from it. The thing about my hyperaldosteronism is that it takes a clear second place to the pain I suffer from postherpetic neuralgia. I know that one is clearly treatable and the other isn't at this time. The pain I have from the PHN is 24/7. There is nothing available yet that will do anything to diminish it. I have had PHN for 5 years. I look forward to learning more about my more recently diagnosed condition and beginning to get a handle on that part of me. I also am looking forward to a new treatment for PHN. I was part of a clinical trial for PHN pain control about 4 years ago. It worked. The company that makes the product is bringing it to the the FDA in the last quarter of this year. Now all I have to do is wait for them to approve it after they get it and the pain will finally be under control. For any who are interested, the new product is called NGX-4010 and is a trans-dermal patch. After one application, I was nearly pain-free for three months. You can see why I am looking forward to its release. God bless you. Sollywally
Guest guest
Hi, Jodie. Welcome and congratulations on your pregnancy! It's very exciting, isn't it? Good for you to look into this now when there's already so much to learn about pregnancy and childbirth. I thought doing research meant reading the CDC vaccine statements the pediatrician handed me as they gave my first two children shots. My advice is for you in doing your research is to look for proof any vaccine works, proof they are safe, and be aware there are alternatives to ensuring your baby's health that do not include vaccines. Get the facts (not the marketing propaganda), and go with your instincts. Don't base your decisions on what anyone, including me, tells you. You're the mom! Guest guest
Hi and welcome Just for openers. Immunisations, vaccination an inoculation are different things. Inoculation is what they did before Jenners time. A scratch in the arm. Vaccination is injecting the needle and immunisation is what the body builds through proper food and exercise. Guest guest
Hi there! Welcome! I'm also glad you are researching before you have children. It just so happened that circumstances in my life lead me to research vaccines before I had my DD as well..and we choose not to vax. Now..the more I read...the more I know that vaccines are truly what is causing all of the chronic diseases we are now seeing in today's children and adults. Anyway, my name is Tara, my DP is , and we have one DD who is almost 17 months old. She just got over roseola...and I'm so glad that she got it because I believe her immune system is now definitely stronger than it was before she got it. It's funny because I tell my mainstream friends she got it..and they act all concerned and " aww...that's too bad " and then when I talk to my holistic friends, we're all jumping up and down all excited that she got it because we know the only way to strengthen an immune system is to get the diseases and go thru them. Anyway...just rambling. There's lots of info here. Take your time and try not to feel overwhelmed. And investigate before you vaccinate..because you can never take the shot back. GL! Guest guest
I wish we would have been that smart. Good for you. The book that made the decision to stop vaccinating our son and our daughter has never been, was The Sanctity of Human Blood: Vaccination is not Immunization by Tim O'Shea. My husband and I don't have kids yet but I started researching vaccines about four months ago. I've learned quite a lot and I found this site referred on another website. It's likely that we won't do any vaccinations but need to look into a few more things before we come down definitively on that. I look forward to learning a lot here. Guest guest
I have the same pain that you have, buldging disc on L4-5 @ S-1. I also been having those nerve block injections, which only last about 4 months then jt comes back, can hardly walk, I was thinking about haveing it opertrated on. But I did not get much relife when they replaced @ fused C-5-6-7. so thats why i'm looking at the Pain Pump. Good Luck > > Hello > My name is Kim. I have been in chronic pain since 2003. I have had back problems since 2000 but they got really bad in 2003. I had a laminectomy then and things went down hill from there. I was a massage therapist at the time. Needless to say, I can no longer work in that field. I have since been down a long road and finally found out most of my problems are due to scoliosis. I had a 2 level lumbar fusion in 2006 which did not heal. I am in pain management for sciatic type pain that is ongoing. > Right now I am on meds and having SI injections. I had the last injection yesterday which was a real booger. Guest guest
Thanks for your reply. Was there a reason that you are looking at the pain pump over the SCS? I really feel that there is benefit from both and wonder which would be best. My doc did not bring the pain pump up yesterday however. Not sure why really. I plan on discussing this with him when I go back in . As for your ? on the anesthesia. I was reading on the Medtronic site yesterday and I believe that I read that both procedures do local anesthesia for the trials. That does not mean they could not give you something to help to relax you, however. HTH Re: Introduction I have the same pain that you have, buldging disc on L4-5 @ S-1. Guest guest
Kim, I also suffer from sciatic pain and have found that strips of the Lidoderm patches help the pain best. I put a strip in the sciatic area, another at the hip area, one at the very top of my leg, kinda in the groin area, one behind my knee and another on my foot. Guest guest
My Dr brought up the Pain Pump. I also use a 10,s unit a nd I don't feel the Stimulator would do the trick. I now by takeing Pain Meds I can get relife from my Pain so I think with the Pain Pump I can get relife. > > > > Hello > > My name is Kim. I have been in chronic pain since 2003. Guest guest
I am using the Lidoderm patches and have been for years now. It does help the surface pain and some of the muscle stuff but that deep burning nerve pain does not go away with the Lidoderm. It helps a bit but does not get me anywhere near a comfortable level of pain. Without it I am so sore to the touch, I cannot stand for anyone to touch my leg, or my doggie to sit on my lap even and she only weighs 4 lbs Thanks Re: Introduction Kim, I also suffer from sciatic pain and have found that strips of the Lidoderm patches help the pain best.
