So does Ted. Since 1 week old. I think that because it is one ot the

" older "

drugs that it has to be approved or re-approved. something about a grand

father clause. I also did not catch all of the news. anyone else hear

anything?

I guess I should call the ped.

introduction

Hi everyone.....I guess it's time that I quit lurking and introduce myself.

I received an email from Kim a couple of weeks ago inviting me to join and

since then I've been so busy that I haven't taken the time to sit down and

post. My name is Katy and I have a very small soap business called Naples

Creek Soaps & Sundries. I'm located in Naples (NY of course) and mainly just

sell my product at craft shows and from my website. I do have my soaps in 2

gift shops (co-ops) but haven't really done wholesale yet. Soapmaking has

been my hobby and passion since 1998 but, unfortunately, I have a full time

job (gotta pay for those soap supplies!) that keeps me very busy as well. I

do most of my soaping on weekends but try and get a few batches in during

those late nights in the week when I've got time to myself. I'm divorced

with 2 daughters (12 and 16) and have been engaged for about 7 years! My

fiance' and I have been together for almost 10 years now, have built a house

together (that we now live in) and may even be considered married by common

law. :-)One of these days we will have that wedding. I've been reading

everyones messages and sure wish I could have made the gathering. Sounded

like a lot of fun. I looked at the map but it's still hard to tell just

where everyone is from. A few from Rochester maybe? I know Kim is in

Leicester which isn't far from me and I drive through there everyday to go

to work. I've been getting almost all of my supplies online so if anyone has

any hints on suppliers close to me (or Rochester even), I would be forever

greatful. The shipping kills me. Nice to " meet " you all!

's beanie babies are lined up having lunch right now. They were in

circle time. PE should be next, oops, said recess (play) is next.

He pretends he is Ms Margarucci and they are the students. He will mimic

his daily schedule at school. Took me awhile to catch on. He can say

Margarucci (just Margarucci...no Ms or Miss) but not " no " . Go figure!

SMALL WORLD!!! Yes, is my hubby! I read your note to him and he was

amazed! " I know her! She's so nice! "

I'm so glad you like my soap. Thimbleberry Hill is going strong! I've

opened a shop on Main Street in Geneseo. I give classes out of the shop

also.

Right now I'm thinking of adding soaping supplies. Do you think there's

enough call around here?

Hi Katy!

Welcome to the list. I'm List Mom1 Colleen is List Mom2

Feel free to kick back and call this place home. We welcome chat about anything, not just soaping so if you've had a bad day know you'll find friendly ears here who are willing to listen and when you've had a good day you'll find cheering ears as well.

My only rule here is if anyone sells anything it is up to the seller to make good on any and all deals.... Colleen and I are not responsible for sales in any way shape or form other than our own. Oh and one more rule.... no selling anything illegal, children including first born and hubbys :)

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome. Shaye, I looked at your website and

realized that I found you out there awhile ago while surfing and was so

impressed with your site. I love the " earthy/natural " look! It's beautiful!

Thank you also for the link to Olive Tree Soaps. With Naples being such a

small town, you'd think we'd have run into each other before! I'll have to

look her up the next time I'm in need of some butters. Also, Lizz, I just

saw your posting and was wondering if your company name is Thimbleberry

Hill? If so, your soap is what I was buying before I started making my own.

Well, I'll confess, I still buy it when I come across it! It's excellent

soap! I first started using handmade soap about 6 years ago when my fiance's

mother sent me some from British Columbia. I shopped around until I found

Thimbleberry Hill and then stayed with that. Are you any relation to Pete

Savard? If so, it's a very small world! I work for BOCES in computer support

and we do a lot of work at Livonia school where Pete is technology

coordinator. Of course we're not there very often as he pretty much has

everything under control! We like that but still love to come to Livonia

once in awhile. I think I'm going to enjoy this list. It's nice to talk to

other soapers from the area. Thanks again for the welcome everyone!

Well I always wondered if the person on the back of those soap labels was

any relation of his but I never got around to asking. Very cool! Now he can

defend me when all the guys at work pick on me for making my own soap! :-)

I drive through Geneseo quite often but rarely go down Main St. That's great

news that you've got a shop there now. Congratulations! I've been asked by

the shop owner at Village Gifts in Fairport if I'd ever give classes there

but I'm just not outgoing enough to teach. She still asks once in awhile

though (that's one of the shops that I have my soap in).

I would be very interested in purchasing supplies from you if you ever

decide to carry them. Please let me know! I have my buckets of Coconut and

Palm shipped in from Columbus Foods and the shipping cost is terrible. About

the only thing I'm getting locally is Olive Oil, lye, beeswax and now maybe

butters from Olive Tree. Essential Oils and Fragrance Oils would be great

also (but maybe I'm being greedy)!

Very nice meeting you. Tell Pete I said hello.

Katy, thanks for the compliment on my site! What places do you have your

soaps in? I need to get my nerve up, get out and get some local accounts

(have gotten some across the country but not local). Right now I have a

booth at LW Emporium which is doing really well, and just sell online.

I am very fortunate with tim also, I can take him almost anywhere and be

guaranteed reasonable behaviour, sometimes really good, sometimes less than

that but rarely the type of behaviour that would make me not take him back,

it has happened but it is rare. On the other hand I have a son (now 13 )

without the benefit of any label for learning or behavioural difficulties

(other than 'neurotic first time mother' ) that I stopped taking anywhere

after about his first 3 months becoz he simply couldn't cope with crowds,

strangers and new situations. I had to peel him off me every morning for

years, until he was 7, even going to school. But becoz he is very bright

and he was my first, his problems were waved off by professionals as him

being highly strung, he was frustrated becoz he was bright, he was

frustrated becoz I didn't know how to control him, he couldn't cope becoz I

was making him that way, he couldn't cope becoz he didn't sleep well, he had

paddies up to 7-8 times a day, lying on the floor, kicking and screaming,

throwing things, slamming doors, turning blue, he had them at home, in

parks, in supermarkets, at my parents house, when his friends were there, at

school. he was an utter nightmare. So I thank God that tim and naomi were

not my first children too or they no doubt would have been the same!! Its

amazing really, my daughter at 10 years old has had less paddies in 10 years

than ben had a day until he was 7 ish! She was born calm, heaven only knows

how as ben stressed me out big time the whole time I was carrying her and

tim, tho not genetically related came into this situation with an out of

control 7 year old brother and didn't pick up on it. So, I have undying

sympathy for all those people out there who have kids who can't tolerate

change and strange situations. The one advantage you have over me at the

time is that having a child with a label makes it understandable in the eyes

of educators and medical people for your child to be like this, Ben was

simply the product of parental mishandling or so I was told. He is tho now

the most delightful teenage one could wish for, got all that rebellion out

of him early!!

AS to the questions about groups... there is a group fairly near to us and I

have attended a few meetings.... though sometimes I had to make a choice

between attending the Down syndrome interest group and my older son's

parent/school association meeting..... I have to try and give to both

children and on top of it... the meetings would start at 7:30 which does not

sound so bad except many nights I do not get home until 7 and that means I

need to get everyone right out the door and hope to get to the meeting on

time.... the internet is just so much easier and immediate... and it doesn;t

matter if I ask the question at noon or at 3 in the morning....

For anyone interested in organizing a Buddy Walk in your area there is a

handbook available from NDSS....go to www.NDSS.org and request one, there may

be a cost, we received ours last year at no cost as affiliates and will have

update insert pages for this year to add. We could write a book with what

we have learned through the last five walks. I did the first wallk here the

second year that NDSS held their walk. It was a quick put together that saw

about 75 walkers. Last year it had grown to 450 plus. We are just so

excited about this year. I encourage everyone to find a Buddy Walk near you,

or just come to Belton, Texas the first Sunday in October and walk with us :0)
