Guest guest
Hi T3-ers, I have been on T3 very successfully for two years. I take 40 mcgs divided into four, four hourly doses starting at 6a.m. I started feeling under medicated at Christmas and it has slowly gone downhill since then. I thought it was something to do with my menopause which kicked in at about the same time, but I have that well under control now with Serenity. It dawned on me about three days ago that I have rT3, but I just don't understand why this has happened. I haven't had any trauma or stress that would give me adrenal issues, my supplements are good, diet good. All I can think of is that maybe I'm just overdoing it with the T3. Joint and muscle pain yesterday was so bad that I could hardly move. Blurred vision, brain fog.....all the old hypo symptoms back with a vengeance. Today I have stopped all my T3 to try and help 'clear' some excess out and just had veggies plus my adrenal supps and extra vitamin c and magnesium.Joint and muscle pain are down by about 50%. I missed my endo app this month so I don't have my latest test results and I don't know what my ferritin levels are. Can the menopause effect use of T3 ? Is it possible that some of my previous hypo symptoms were due to hormonal inbalance that has now been corrected with the Serenity leading to less actual T3 being required...... = I have been overdosing ??? Any comments are most welcomed. julia
Guest guest
Hi , I very much doubt that you have an rT3 issue. It is T4 that converts to rT3. T3 cannot convert to rT3! Have you had any recent blood tests done to check your levels of iron, transferrin saturation%, ferritin, vitamin B12, vitamin D3, magnesium, folate, copper and zinc? If not, ask your GP to do these and post the results (together with the reference range for each test done) onto the forum and we will help with their interpretation. If the T3 dose was slightly low to begin with then if your iron, B12 or cortisol has fallen, then this could reduce the conversion rate of any remaining T4 (more rT3 from that route) What adrenal supplements are you taking and how much, and did you stop your thyroid hormone replacement for a few days when you first started taking it? I don't know what time you take your first dose but you might consider starting this earlier to see if it could boost your cortisol. You can start this by taking your first dose an hour earlier than you normally do, and then after a few days, take it another half hour earlier and keep doing this until you are setting your alarm clock for 4.30a.m. and taking your first dose of T3 then. Too much progesterone can also block T3. You need to make sure that you are adjusting the use of the progesterone cream for the menopausal state and not using more than the recommended dose on at the appropriate times in the month Luv - Sheila It dawned on me about three days ago that I have rT3, but I just don't understand why this has happened.
