Guest guest
Hi I have been deluged with email....and seem to have inadvertantly deleted one of the digests on this thread before getting to read everthing that I wanted. I have just gone to the egroups site and am looking up the archives -- my apologies to all if I have missed something important. Jill: I am so sorry to hear what happened to you! My point was not to dismiss the injuries caused by vaccines to your child merely because they are rare, but rather to point out that for parents (like you) who work so hard to make healthy choices -- vaccinating then becomes (by comparrison one of the more serious threats that their child faces. My response to " should we vax " was taking into account that most parents (who do not personally know anyone like you) look at the odd's of a tragedy like yours happening and feel that they are making an informed decision to vaccinate and consider the likelhood of brain damage and death so remote as to be not a significant factor in their choice. But then there is another issue. Since there are potential (and different) risks either way, I would be concerned for a family who chooses NOT to vax, but then does not take the other steps necessary to build health. (Breastfeeding, and diet) Their child WILL be at increased risk of health problems due to their other lifestyle choices anyway, and if a serious problem does develop it will be seen by authorities that their choice to NOT vaccinate was a factor in their child's health problems and in addition to all they have to deal with then -- they could also be dealing with state health department officials and or Child Protective Services. Believe me I am by no means suggesting that I think vaxing is a good thing for anyone, but if you are going to go so against a cultural norm...then you better be prepared to take personal responsibility. My preference would be for children to be exclusively breast fed for at least 7-8 months, with gradual introduction of solids and continued breast feeding for at least 2 years, to eat a plant based diet of mostly organic foods and not vaccinate. This I believe will afford children the best chance of a long vibrantly healthy life. But I also realize that many parents are simply doing the best that they can given their own life situation. There are no easy answers -- merely choices and consequences.
