Guest guest
Hi there to you all,my name is Alison and I am 43.i was diagnosed in 1996 with hypothyroidism after the birth of my daughter. It went again after the birth of my son so my thyroxine was raised from 100 mcg to 125 mcg. 3 years ago I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia and after a year also diagnosed with VitD deficiency . To say its been a struggle is an understatement. I live with chronic pain every day and just feel generally unwell. I have lost 3 stone with slimming world but instead of feeling great I feel awful, very low and anxious,I look unwell, black under my eyes. A member on here told me to join and see if anyone can help. Shall I go back to the doc and get some thyroid tests done? Do I need to ask for anything specifically? Alison
Guest guest
I HAVE REMOVED MOST OF THE PREVIOUS MESSAGES. WHEN REPLYING TO A MESSAGE COULD YOU PLEASE DO THIS BEFORE CLICKING REPLY. THANKS MODERATOR > Hello Alison > Welcome to the forum! I'm sorry poor health has brought you here, but > you are in the right place to get some help now. So, are you on 125mcg thyroxine at the moment? When it was increased, > did you feel any better, even only briefly? > Thanks for your reply chris. I was first put on 100 mcg of thyroxine after my daughter was born. I had very bad post natal depression went into hospital and they found my thyroid levels were low. I took ages to improve and then I became pregnant with my son. After having him my thyroid levels had dipped again and the thyroxine was increased to 125 mcg. Again I have never felt totally well,I went on to run my own business but felt I was constantly pushing myself then in October 2008 my health deteriorated so badly with terrible pain in my feet and feeling very very unwell so I had to close my shop as I had no other support. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia in 2010 and I have been unwell ever since. There has been slight improvement of symptoms since I have lost weight but 3 weeks ago I went downhill again. Have seen my rheumatologist who did all my blood test again including Vit D am waiting for the results. I am also now struggling to loose anymore weight which has coincided with me feeling a lot worse. I will make an appointment to see my gp she is new to me but very approachable and has even set up a support group for people with fibro. I will see what she thinks about the thyroid problems and give her some info. Hopefully in the next week I will have the results of my blood tests. Guest guest
Hello Alison Fibromyalgia is a symptoms of low thyroid and can be treated successfully with the active thyroid hormone T3. Ask your GP for a referral to an endocrinologist of your choice (I have sent you a list of such doctors) - you may need to go outside of your area. Also, some patients who have so called " normal " thyroid function test results who are taking levothyroxine only, yet still complain of symptoms are also being given the diagnoses of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome or ME - and these too are treatable using T3. It is good that your GP has set up a support group and hopefully, you can make contributions to this from information you can get from TPA. Thyroxine is a mainly inactive thyroid hormone that must convert to the active T3. Ask your GP to also test your levels of iron, transferrin saturation%, ferritin, vitamin B12, vitamin D3, magnesium, folate, copper and zinc and when you get these results, post them here on the forum together with the reference range for each of the tests done, and we will help with their interpretation.
