Guest guest
saw our lovely endo quite a while ago, he said test and if tsh over 2 then we can increase a litte, my mother has quite a few illnesses so its not easy getting her to see her gp. anyway got her there last week and they said her tsh was 3 and that it was in range and i thought here we go again uneducated gp.... i then said dr.... our endo said and that if it was close another 25mgs every other day would be good to try. He said okay even though she is in range and i couldnt be bothered to argue as am always worried they will not prescribe. Then a couple of days later she started with the back pains again, we went to casualty just the same as about a year ago, although she has had the pain in-between it was worse this time. She put up with the pain until Wednesday and asked me to take her to hospital as it was so bad, so off we went to casualty was expecting them to give her oral pain killers just like last time but was amazed to get her in a bed with morpine in less than half an hour. They then said think its a kidney stone, we will do kub scan. They made her wait last time she waited a few weeks for it. Then after the scan they said they wanted to do another scan with dye but couldnt do it until the morning, I stayed until around 9pm and left her in the Clinical Descision Unit, went back the next day to wait with her, she was looking a little better. A few hours later and she needed more medication for pain they gave her paracetamol via a drip, which did help, then I said to her we have waited so long I dont think this is going to happen they are going to cancel your scan. I went for a walk to get some food and a drink was gone 15 mins on my return a Dr was with her he said he was a registrar and that they were going to discharge my mother and give her an outpaitents appointment for the scan. I was so upset I said to him amongst other things how would you feel if this was your parent, and that if they discharged her even with pain meds as soon as the pain returned i would bring her back to casualty, I would not be responsible for administering opiate drugs to her. He then said Okay I will go back to the person in charge of the scans, so we waited, he came back a short while later to say they said they could not do it. He then said to me do you want to see the consultant, so i said yes, he went off to find him. I went to phone my sister so she could give it to them over the phone. I went straight back to my mother and in no time the consultant came and he said I am sorry you are angry, I immediately said i am not agry i am upset and worried for my mother who has now been in pain for 7 days who was told if you wait overnight we will do this scan to do what they say and then they change their minds, he immediately said we will do it today.. I quickly had to phone and tell my sister not to phone it was going ahead now. One other thing that is so wrong here is that the Doctor whom drew the short straw and had to tell us they were not going ahead was not english and was very difficult to understand, and i have full hearing my mother does not and kept saying to him i cannot hear you please wait for my daughter she will understand. I am not sure if he was deliberately mummbling or not. The outcome is she has polycystic kidney disease, which is hereditary, and I know i have it as well as i have symptoms they have ignored for years, one being microscopic blood in urine, which has never been propery investgated. we are now awaiting referral to a kidney specialist. Apparantly due to the new rules coming in from parliament they cannot make the referral they have to write to her GP he then had to send out the referral, how crazy is that.
