Guest guest
Hi, I'm 37 and was diagnosed (after a bit of a struggle) as hypo about 15 years ago. I'm currently on 125 Levothyroxine and in general don't feel too bad but I still have symptoms eg thin hair, weight gain, tiredness. I had Guillaime Barre Syndrome about 8 years ago so I'm not sure what my energy levels should be in relation to that. I can't remember what 'normal' is but I manage a busy life despite feeling pretty wiped out by the end of each day. I'm trying to avoid getting my GP involved as they're not very helpful and also difficult to get an appointment with so everything takes forever. I've just had my test results back from Blue Horizon today and they are: FERRITIN *5 ug/L 13 - 150 Optimum Ferritin level for females : >27 ug/L THYROID STIMULATING HORMONE 1.91 mIU/L 0.27 - 4.2 FREE THYROXINE 18.5 pmol/l 12.0 - 22.0 FREE T3 4.4 pmol/L 3.1 - 6.8 Obviously the ferritin level is very low. This isn't a surprise as it was 'undetectable' about 15 years ago. I had to take ferrous fumerate and ferrous sulphate for about a year to get it back up but it's sunk again. Both types of iron made me feel constantly nauseous so could anyone suggest anything a bit gentler on the stomach? Also are the T4 and T3 levels OK? They are within the ranges but I was wondering if the T3 should be a little higher? I've just started supplementing with B12, Vit D and vit C and have heard that iodine and selenium and L-Tyrosine can do wonders. Any advice from anyone who's tried them would be gratefully recieved. Thanks in advance. This is a great site. I have already learned so much just from reading the posts here over the last couple of weeks.
