Hi Dawn, They rang you because your FT4 is well below the ref range and when doctors see a suppressed TSH and a well below range FT4, they panic. Since you are taking T3-only it is not at all surprising that your FT4 is low. You are not taking any T4 and your thyroid gland isn't producing any either because your TSH is suppressed. All of this is "normal" for someone on T3-only medication... the question is - does your doctor know what you are taking? If yes, then the out-of-hours doctor hasn't read the file properly, if no, then you are now busted From your thyroid results the GP will see that you are not taking any Levothyroxine (if that is what he thinks you are taking), and you might have a bit of explaining to do. But if your doctor knows about you taking T3-only, then a phone call might suffice, reminding the doc that you are only taking T3 and that the lack of FT4 nor the suppressed TSH is anything to worry about. In time the T4 in your system will disappear altogether. There really is no point in doing TFTs when a patient is on T3-only. With best wishes,
Guest guest
Thats brilliant !! My GP does know Im on it, although purchasing it myself, but I dont think she is familiar with T3 prescribing.. Will the t4 continue to go down or will it find its 'level' ?? Thanks Dawn > > > Can anyone shed some light on whats happening. Will the t4 continue to go down or will it find its 'level' ??Hi Dawn,The T 4 will keep going down and eventually disappear altogether even if your own thyroid gland were still able to produce it, because the T3 will suppress the TSH completely.... which is why thyroid function tests are really surplus to requirement on T3. Even T3 testing will be meaningless because it gets constantly used up, which means that the FT3 levels will yo-yo. You regulate your dose by listening to your body, as I understand it.If your GP is not familiar with T3 -only dosing she might now get cold feet and try to talk you out of it by scaring you with tales of heart disease and osteoporosis. Do your home work so you will be able to explain to her how T3-only therapy works. Good luck,
Guest guest
Dawn, you might want to show the attached to your GP ' How to Treat Using T3'. This should help her.
