Guest guest
>> Hi all, > > Just to let you know my long awaited appt with a prof at the "Big Hospital in Camridge" is this afternoon at 2pm! I`m just hoping he will take me seriously and give me the diagnosis and treat me!No such luck! He went thru all my blood results from the last 4 years, they are all normal! my TSH has fluctuated from 0.19 being the lowest (0.35-5.5), 0.38 (these two low end results were because "Viruses can cause the TSH to become very low".....i didnt even have a bloody virus when these were taken!)Then i had a run of TSH at 1.50, 1.60, 1.70. 1.90, then in June last year it was 3.00, and last one in november was 4.2, and yes thats all normal too, and when i said i`d say that was quite high, because in Europe its 2.5 etc, he just waffled on about something or other, and didnt actually answer properly. When asked why my FT4 is always at the low end of the range, (lowest was 11.8, highest was 13 (10-19.8) thats fine its normal.Dont get me wrong, has wasnt rude, but i knew quite quickly that it was going to be a waste of time, and my heart sank, i did get tearful, which i`m sooooo annoyed with myself, as i suppose that`ll back up the GPs "its all in your head therory. I also clammed right up and didnt say much at all. He felt my neck, and said "Yes i can feel thyroid tissue, that shows its working"???????? The symptom list i took up with me, was met with, "Thats alot of broad symptoms, that can apply to alot of other things" I asked for a trial of T4, he said he cant give me that because the body can then stop making its own, and i wouldnt be able to come of it.I`ve now got to wait until the end of MAY to have a synacthen test, and others tests (inc thyroid i suppose), hes checking for addisons! That`ll come back normal then. How long have i got to wait to get listened too?Caz xx
Guest guest
I had a very similar experience to you Caz. Both my maternal grandmother and my mother had thyroid problems and I started experincing symptoms too. My TSH wasn't particularly high at 2.13, but I felt rough and my T4 was at the low end. We're not stupid people, we know our bodies!!! I saw an endo too, who gave me the 'normal levels' talk. He even went so far as to say " I suppose you could always go and see an alternative doctoe who will prescribe NDT, then you'll be back here to get your hyper symptoms sorted " . I actually complained about him in the end, because he was so rude. In the end I did order NDT from the states and I haven't looked back. I'm now on 3 1/2 grains of Natur-throid and feel much much better. Hope this helps, x --- > I`ve now got to wait until the end of MAY [] to have a synacthen > test, and others tests (inc thyroid i suppose), hes checking for > addisons! MODERATOR Hi Caz I can't give you any scientific or medical advice but just wanted to say I'm so sorry you didn't get the help you needed. There must be loads of us out here who feel just the same and I really empathise with you. I know I get upset at my appts and I hate it too, knowing this will just confirm their suspicions of 'oh she's actually depressed/emotional/menopausal'. Grrr! It's so frustrating the wait between appointments which you build up expectations, only to find them dashed. I really don't get the way some of the medical professionals have no understanding of what it feels like to be on the 'other side'. Keep heart though. You WILL get there in the end!
