,

If you are getting hyper symptoms on T4 only then I wouldn't think that taking

T3 would be a good idea..

what do you hope to gain from taking T3?

How are your adrenals? Iron Levels? D3? B12? it all makes a difference..

.

Hi

Read through the attached document to find out whether you could

be suffering with one of these. You need to go through these by way of a

process of elimination. Many people who can't increase their dose happily find

that they can, once they have found out what is stopping the thyroid hormone

from working find they are suffering with low adrenal reserve, or have low

levels of specific minerals or vitamins.

Let us know what you think after reading this, and meanwhile, go

to our FILES SECTION here thyroid treatment/files/

and on the page that opens, scroll down to the FOLDER entitled 'Medical

Questionnaires'. Answer the questions in all three that are there and see how

you score.

Whilst in the FILES SECTION, check out the load of other

information that is there, we have a great deal of information there on must

about everything that you need to know. Any questions - just shout!

I thought you could have a problem convertin the T4 to T3 and some people don't

do well on T4 only. Am a wrong???? I thought maybe adding in T3 would

alliviate some syptoms if I was getting toxic on T4 due to non conversion. I am

so confused. Have I completely got it wrong!!!??? If going on T3 wouldn't help

I can't bear to think that I have to feel like this for the rest of my life!!!

Galathea - do you think it's not hypothyroid then?? maybe I do have ME but I

did feel so much better when I initially went on thyroxine. It's only after

increasing to 100mcg I felt like my heart was pounding. Gone down again after

decreasing to 75mcg. D3, B12, all OK Ferritin slightly high but they said to

repeat test in 3 mths just to keep a check on it. TSH gone from 6.6 to 0.4 T4

gone from 14 to 22.

, you said you had hyperthyroid symptons on T4 so you had to reduce it.

T4 is an inactive storage hormone, so if you are getting hyperthyroid symptoms

it must be converting into T3.....

Unless you have hashimotos in the early stages and the thyroid has speeded up of

it's own accord?

The heart pounding can be a sign that you are on too little thyroid hormone, or

that the adrenals are stressed, but heart pounding on it's own is not proof of

hyperthyroidism.

Hyperthyroidism usually involves eating loads, losing weight, not sleeping and

your brain racing at a million miles an hour..... as well as a host of other

stuff... none of it pleasant.....

Have you got muddled up between hyper and hypo?

No I'm under dr skinner as hypothyroid - Hashimotos - and Ive been so ill for

10yrs. Reading everything on here it says you can become thyrotoxic on T4

because you get a build up in of thyroxine but your body isn't converting ot

into T3 so therefore you get the hyper symptoms but your ody is not converting

the hormone into T3 for the body to utilise!!! Can someone clarify what is

correct??? If that's not right then the info in the files section is completely

wrong!!!! Help!!

Hi

You are probably getting mixed up with symptoms of T4 toxicity

in the blood and symptoms of too much thyroid in the cells (hyperthyroidism).

T4 is a mainly inactive thyroid hormone and it has to convert to the active

thyroid hormone T3. If T4 doesn't convert, it builds up in the blood, with

nowhere for it to go. This causes toxicity in the blood.

Symptoms of hyperthyroidism are caused when there is too much thyroid

hormone in the cells - similar symptoms to toxicity in the blood, but two

different issues. You need to get a blood test to check your levels of

TSH free T4 and free T3. Let us have these together with the reference range.

If there is too much T4 in the blood, your free T4 test will

show high in the range and your free T3 is likely to show low. If the T4 is

converting to the active T3, your free T4 will likely show low in the range and

the free T3 will be high and it could be very high, giving you symptoms of

hyperthyroidism. Symptoms of hyperthyroidism requires that your dose of

thyroxine be cut down, but you would not need T3. Symptoms of thyroid toxicity

(too much T4 in the blood with a low level of T3) requires that you decrease

your thyroxine and add in some T3.

Check out the attached document giving a list of associated

conditions that go along with being hypothyroid and that stop thyroid hormone

from getting into the cells. If you suffer with any of these, you need to get

it/them treated. It is important to get your blood tested so you, and we, know

what's happening.

That makes sense then!! Had my result back last week and tsh is 0.4 and t4 is

22. Dr pointblank reuses to do t3 and when he did request it the lab refused.

Do you think its worth getting it done privately???

Thank you for your help!!!!
