Hi ,

There are one or two companies who cover underactive thyroid as standard but

they are a bit more expensive. Lloyds TSB are one of the companies.

When you get a quote online under the medical conditions there is a drop down

box to show conditions you don't have to tell them about and Hypo and Hyper are

in this list.

I think last time I did a quote for a long weekend in France it was £14.00.

Thanks

I've recently bought holiday insurance and told them about the thyroid

and they said it was covered.

However:

1. I'm NOT self-medicating, at the moment I'm actually taking no thyroid

medication

2. They wouldn't cover me with a blood-test outstanding - that would

cost more and anything related to the thyroid wouldn't be covered

anyway. (it didn't matter if the results of the test were hyper or hypo,

it was the fact there was a test).

So I waited til I got the results of the test, phoned them up to check,

then got cover.

Its through " ProtectMyBubble " , and was very competitive for a family.

(Please edit this if it counts as advertising)

My main concern would be the self-medicating bit... I didn't check for

that, as it wasn't relevant for me.

When you travel abroad within the European Union there is a reciprocal

arrangement with the NHS for treatment. You get a card in advance which lasts

several years.

I would have thought this was adequate unless you were going to do hazardous

sports such as skiing.
