Don't

allow your GP to treat you in such a way. Write him a letter and tell him that

you are no longer prepared to put up with your present symptoms and that you

are now determined to do whatever is necessary to find the cause and that you

hope he will work with you. Tell him that most definitely, you are NOT prepared

to wait for 6 months and that you want to find the cause NOW and to start

whatever treatment is necessary.

List

all of your symptoms and signs - however long these are. Go to our web site www.tpa-uk.org.uk and then click on Signs

and Symptoms to check yours against those there.

Next,

take your basal temperature for 4 or 5 mornings before you get out of bed in a

morning and list these if they are 97.8 degrees (36.6 degrees C) or less.

Next

list all the members of your family who have a thyroid or autoimmune disease.

Next,

tell him that you want TSH, free T4, free T3 and TPO and Tg antibodies tested

for and ask him to make it clear on the blood request form that you

particularly need these done. Ask also that you be given access to these

results together with the reference range so you can keep these. (You don't

have to tell a doctor why you need these, and a doctor is not allowed to

withhold any information that is in your medical notes from you under the Data

Protection Act 1998).

Next,

ask for the following SPECIFIC nutrients to be tested and tell your GP that

should any of these be low in the reference range, no amount of thyroid hormone

can be fully utilised at the cellular level - not even your own. These are

iron, transferrin saturation%, ferritin, vitamin B12, vitamin D3, magnesium,

folate, copper and zinc. In case your GP tries to tell you that there is no

association between these vitamins and minerals and low thyroid, copy out the

attached few references to show just some of the research/studies that have

been done showing of the association.

Next,

ask for a referral to an endocrinologist of your choice. Most endocrinologists

have diabetes as their specialty and many know little to nothing about the

functioning of the greater thyroid system. I have sent you a list of doctors

recommended by our members. You may need to go outside of y our area to find a

good one.

Last,

ask for your letter of request to be placed into your medical notes and keep a

copy yourself. If your surgery has a head of practice, send a copy to him/her

too, and make sure this is shown with a 'Cc' at the bottom of your letter.

Finish

by saying you will a\wait hearing from him in due course with a date to get all

the above blood tests done.

Remember,

that according to the GMC, all doctors registered with them must work with

their patients and listen to them etc. This is not what your doctor is doing -

he is pushing the problem under the carpet for the next 6 months, and leaving

you to suffer. This is very, very wrong, and he will get away with this with

other patients unless somebody puts a stop to it now.

Our

problem is that we are too trusting believing our doctors know everything, and

sadly, we are finding just how little they really do know about thyroid

disease.

You

might press your point home by telling him that you aware that some common and often undiagnosed

symptoms and dangerous consequences of low thyroid include: serious mental

problems (see below), seizures, heart disease, diabetes including misdiagnosis

and complications, constipation resulting in colon cancer, all female problems

(due to high amounts of dangerous forms of oestrogen), including: tumours,

fibroids, ovarian cysts, PMS, endometriosis, breast cancer, miscarriage, heavy

periods and cramps, bladder problems leading to infections, anaemia, elevated

CPK, elevated creatinine, elevated transaminases, hypercapnia, hyperlipidaemia,

hypoglycaemia, hyponatraemia, hypoxia, leukopaenia respiratory acidosis and

others....

I need names of doctors who will prescribe T3

in UK.. My NHS doctor won't even refer me to an endocrinologist, he says come

back in 6 months.. he has sent in blood tests but what happens is if the TSH is

tested first and is within range, they won't follow his instructions to test T3

or T4 or free levels. This has happened twice now, going against the doctor's

written request because the TSH was " in range. " I know I am low range

in T3 because I can feel it.

Hi Cat - Sorry, but I don't understand your message. I

sent you the doctors list this afternoon as an attachment. This was sent to you

privately. I do not post the list of doctors on the open forum as I do not have

their permission to do so.

Sheila.

How about setting your options so that you have to go to the website to read

messages? It certainly saves getting a lot of stuff in your email box.

Then how are you ever going to find any messages Cat - even this

one. If you do find this one, then please go to the Home Page of this forum thyroid treatment

and just over the top of the broad blue/green bar, click 'Edit Membership'. On

the page that opens, you will see that all members have been given a choice as

to how they wish to receive messages from the group. These choices are

'Individual Messages (which you obviously clicked when you first registered), a

'Daily Digest' (where you get up to 25 messages in just one Email), or 'Special

Notices' where you will receive NO messages, only the occasional one from me

when I have important information to send out to all members, but you can still

read and write messages direct from the web site.

I will send the doctors list for the third time to THIS IS THE

DOCTOR LIST as you request so please let me know that this time, you have

received it, and do change your options about receiving messages.

Hi Sheila,

Would it be possible for you to email the " Doctors' List " to me as an

attachment please?

I assume it's a list of open-minded Doctors throughout UK? I have seen Dr

Peatfield in the past, but he cannot write out prescription for T3 can he?

Wonder if Dr Myhill can prescribe T3, but heard there's a huge waiting list for

her?

Thanks in advance.
