Hi Margaret,

My mum and i are exactly the same.My mum now has to wear a wig as her hair has

gone so sparse.I have 'ordered' her to go and get her thyroid checked again as

she told me " my doctor said i'm fine " -I told her dont stand for it-get your

results printed out and i'll post them here-THEN we'll know if you are fine

(incidentally she has many hypo symtoms not just thin hair..).Also,i've heard

about horsetail in another health forum and you are right! It contains large

amounts of silicia the ingredient they put it shampoos to strengthen hair.I went

as far as to gather it naturally,(as it grows in abundance round here),and steep

it as a tonic to rinse my hair with after each wash.I did'nt stick to my

'regime'for long enough as i'm a busy mum of 3 but may look in to this

again!...wonder if you can drink as a tea? hmm.....

anyway,

good luck!

was always fine anyway. I googled this and found good results for something

called HORSETAIL. I bought some and have used it for a couple of months now and

can honestly say that my hair is thickening up and my nails stronger and longer

than they have ever been. It contains silica which I know is good for

hair/nails.

What is it?

Horsetail is a plant. The above ground parts are used to make medicine.

Horsetail is used for “fluid retention†(edema), kidney and bladder stones, urinary tract infections, the inability to control urination (incontinence), and general disturbances of the kidney and bladder.

It is also used for balding; tuberculosis; jaundice; hepatitis; brittle fingernails; joint diseases; gout; osteoarthritis; weak bones (osteoporosis); frostbite; weight loss; heavy menstrual periods; and uncontrolled bleeding (hemorrhage) of the nose, lung, or stomach.

Horsetail is applied directly to the skin to treat wounds and burns.

There have been reports of horsetail products being contaminated with a related plant called Equisetumpalustre. This plant contains chemicals that can poison cattle, but toxicity in people has not been proven.the rest of this article is in medlineplus. they don`t recommend long term . angel.

Hi

The Horsetail capsules I take are Swanson. I bought 90 and have not used them

all and as I said, I can tell the difference already.

Hi

I found this on Wikipaedia:

E. palustre is poisonous to herbivorous animals, but not to humans. It contains

a vitamin B1-destroying enzyme which can lead to severe lack of coordination in

horses, and the piperidine alkaloid palustrine, which leads to lameness in

cattle. Both substances are stable for years.

Horsetail grows like crazy on my allotment. Everyone there complains about the stuff. Can't get rid of it - the roots go down over a metre! Maybe we could be eating it?
