Hello Nina - yes, I have suffered and got well again after

starting natural desiccated porcine thyroid extract. If you want to read my

story, it is attached.

I suffered with the most excruciating pain which I was told was

caused by a prolapsed disc. This was not the case. It was because I was

not converting the thyroxine (T4) into the active T3. My muscles were literally

going into severe spasm because of a lack of T3. I had several sessions with an

Chiro., but everytime I came out, my legs felt like jelly and I was so weak I

could hardly walk to the car. I had to stop the sessions because they were

making me worse. However, once I started using natural thyroid extract, the

pain gradually disappeared and 8 years later, I am still pain free, healthy and

happy.

Since I opened this forum, I have heard similar stories over and

over again from people who have suffered such pain, their doctors telling them

they are suffering with fibromyalgia or some similar problem, which they were

unable to help with - until their patients started taking some form of T3.

The NHS has a lot to answer.

Luv - Sheila

Hello all,

I'm a chiro and I have a patient who I'm trying to help. I'm convinced she has

some endocrine problem going on but her GPs (she's tried several now) are not

playing ball (I am going to be passing on your info to help with this matter).

She came to me for musculoskeletal symptoms which we've investigated and found

she has both a Lumbar disc lesion and a cervical disc lesion, both causing

pretty nasty symptoms and neuro signs (symptoms previously ignored as they were

put down to 'fibromyalgia').

SO, what I want to know is; can hypothyroid worsen/exacerbate these kind of

conditions? AND; Has anyone suffered from these kind of symptoms (sciatica,

P & Ns, numbness, associated with back or neck pain) that have resolved once

a previously untreated hypothyroid has been properly diagnosed and treated?????

Many thanks, Nina

Sorry Nina but why has this person not been referred by her GP?

This is a Neurological problem, needs to be seen by a Neurological Consultant!

Not exactly those symptoms but similar.

I've had back trouble for most of my life - only mild up until 2003, prior to

that I fell down the stairs as a very young kid and it was weak thereafter, but

in 2003 I twisted it learning to snowboard and it's been a real problem ever

since. Had osteopaths and chiropractic, and more recently McTimoney

chiropractic which ahs done the most good.

But in the last 3 or 4 years by far the worst thing has been the spasms - too

much physical labour and my lower back would go into the most excruciating,

debilitating spasms.

I started NDT 7 weeks ago, still not up to full dose but the spasms have all but

stopped - it's seriously caught me by surprise as with them coming from an

injury that was originally began way before my thyroid started going downhill, I

didn't expect any improvement at all. But whereas before I could do maybe 10

minutes of, say, sweeping or gardening before I was in agony, last week I was

able to dig two huge holes, dig up two 4ft fruit trees, transport and replant

them in my garden, AND prune my existing 25ft apple tree (which was more of a

tree surgery job than pruning, with 6 " thick branches coming out) - and my back

only had minor cramps twice, which went almost immediately.

I am interested in your query though and I'll be keeping an eye for updates, if

your poor petient does get help (although if her GP's like mine and the endos

I've seen, she'll end up self treating as I am) - not from my POV, actually, but

from my dog's, who had a neurological episode the other day (staggering/poor

coordination in her legs) and coupled with minor temperament changes, I am

suspecting her thyroid has gone squiffy.

HI SHEILA AND NINA

Would this be true that I read somewhere on Internet that constipation caused by

Hypothyroidism, and for a start I know it can cause back pain, but due to the

effect on the back it can do damage to the spine which is probably referred to

as degenerative changes, so its all the more reason to treat ones Thyroid or we

become a crippled nation.
