Guest guest
I've only been on NDT for a week at 1 grain split into a morning and lunch time dose. In that time I have put on 4lbs of weight and I'm horrified. I have been able to keep my weight stable (but very over weight) for the last 4 months, and suddenly this happens. The addition of the NDT is the only thing that's changed. My supplements are the same, in the same dosage as they've been for the last 6 months. One other symptom is a return of hot flushes. Just started this last two nights. I am gluten free and have minimal amounts of other grains (a cup of rice with my curry once a week and cornflour in my gravies). Should I carry on with NDT?
Guest guest
Finding that you have gained 4 lbs in weight after being on natural desiccated porcine thyroid extract for only one week I would think is pure coincidence - and no, you should not even consider stopping it. 1 grain is a tiny dose of thyroid hormone and needs to be increased by half a grain (30mgs) now, and increased by another 30mgs in another 3 weeks. The average dose of NDT people find they need is around 120(2 grains) to 180mgs (3 grains), with many needing more and some needing less. Often, it is found that there are other conditions going on that is stopping the thyroid hormone from getting into the cells, and I remember you wondered whether you could be suffering with Systemic Candida and you were going to get this tested. Was this test ever done? Other conditions that stop thyroid hormone from being properly utilised in the cells are adrenal fatigue, mercury poisoning caused through amalgam fillings, low levels of B12, ferritin (but not in your case), low iron, transferrin saturation%, vitamin D, magnesium, folate, copper and zinc, food allergies, other hormonal problems etc etc. Check through the attached document . Guest guest
Hi Sheila, I'm banging my head against a brick wall where blood tests are concerned. Except for ferritin (which is above range)every other blood test that the doc would order last year was 'in range'. I would have said that the TSH was high (being 4.08) and the iron and the folate were low in the range with the B12 being very low in the range. I have been supplementing with iron, folate, vit C, Vit B12, vit D, selinium, and a multi vitamin for over 4 months now so the levels shouldn't have got any worse. My energy levels have improved, though I had to start the second half a tab (1/2 a grain) at lunch time because I slumped terribly after lunch. I have today increased my dosage to 1 grain in the morning and a half a grain at lunch time. I will see how I go, though I am planning on increasing the lunch time dosage to a full grain as well in two weeks dependent on symptoms. The Candida type symptoms seems to be easily explained by dryness rather than bugs, which goes hand in hand with possible Sjogrens. (its amazing how dry your eyes can get and you not notice, till you have the eye drops that make you feel normal again). I will persevere, and hope the weight gain is just some sneaky gluten that has caused water retention. Thanks. 2 > > Finding that you have gained 4 lbs in weight after being on natural > desiccated porcine thyroid extract for only one week I would think is pure > coincidence - and no, you should not even consider stopping it. >
