With out knowing what is normal in these labs we cant interpret the

results. Please get normal levels.

Have you ever been on spironolactone? If not why not?

If you have PA BP and K will normalize. If it does so you get 2

pieces of information:

1. You BP is caused by too much aldo in your body and salt in your diet.

2. If all becomes normal they this type of Rx may be best in the

long run.

Please look at my article on the Evolution of PA and let us know what

stage you are in.

Since I don't have any test to go be I am not even sure if I have Conn's. From

all that I have read I believe I have it. I have been trying for three years to

find out why I am sick. If I have Conn's then I believe it is stage 4. The

problem I have that Doctors Don't seem to think I have it and don't seem to want

to do the tests right.

Because I am unable to afford insurance I am limited to my health care choices.

I am in the VA system for my care. I did fill out paper work at Dartmouth

Hitchcock Medical Center and can get free care there. After the VA did the tests

with me on all the meds I went to DHMC to see an adrenal gland specialist. They

did the test the same day with me on all the meds. I did ask about doing the

test with the meds I was on didn't affect the tests.

Now as the the test I had done at the VA

Tell us what drugs you were on and what your sodium intake was. When

tests were done.

If the drugs you were on dont affect the levels and you were not on a

low sodium diet then you prob dont have PA.

Give us more details on your BP and your K history.

Also family Hx of HTN with or without low K.

It has been a few days since I received this email have been trying to get some

information together to answer it.

The drugs I am on and was taking when the test were done are ATENOLOL

FUROSEMIDE TRIAMTERENE and POTASSIUM CHLORIDE. As to salt use I don't add any

at the table what ever salt I get is what is in the food or what is added when

it is cooked. I am adding the lab tests so you can see how much there is in my

blood.

As to blood pressure readings here are some 150/88 110/60 142/84 110/60 138/88

145/80 171/95 158/98 117/93

I will try again to ask about meds that affect blood tests for Conn's. I take 25

MG of Atenolol 60 MG Furosemide 50 MG Triamterene and 20 MEQ Potassium a day.

Was on this when Blood test were done. Here is some blood work that shows

Potassium and other things.

very difficult to match up what is what. Can you put these in a

table or something to make it easier to read and match up.

I have edited this so it should be easier to read.

<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = " urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office " />

<?xml:namespace prefix = v ns = " urn:schemas-microsoft-com:vml " />

Hope this works this time. Since this is getting a bit long I put some of the

information at the top of this.

> I will try again to ask about meds that affect blood tests for Conn's.

I have CAT scan conformed adenoma on the left adrenal gland 18 mm in size. Also

have 2.2 cm exophytic low density lesion off the mid pole of the left kidney

that measures 34 hu. The adenoma on the left adrenal gland was first found on

chest CAT

scan in 2006 and has not changed in size. The lesion off the mid

pole of the left kidney was found on a abdomen CAT scan done in DEC 2008.

I have have had two blood test done for Conn's one at the White River VA

Medical center and one at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center both places did the

test with be being on all the MEDS and both showed no Conn's.. Now as to the

test I had done at the VA

12/24/2008 14:19 PLASMA RENIN: 1.8 ng/mL/hr 0.65 - 5.0 Test performed at Quest

Diag. Lab. Evaluation for RENIN: Current Range: Non-hypertensive

adults:(upright/sitting) 0.65-5.0 ng/mL/hr

This was in the report

Treatment with medications such as diuretics or ACE inhibitors increase PRA

levels.

Prior to 2/7/2005 reference Range was: Non-hypertensive adults(upright/

sitting) 0.65-5.0 ng/mL/hr

Prior to 6/17/03 reference range was -5.0 uU/mL. 8/5/02 Change in unit

recording from ng/mL/h to uU/mL.

12/24/2008 14:19 SERUM ALDOS: 16 ng/dL

Test performed at Quest Diag. Lab.

Evaluation for ALDOS: Upright 8:00-10:00 am < or = 28 ng/dL Upright 4:00-6:00

pm < or = 21 ng/dL

Supine 8:00-10:00 am 3-16 ng/dL

DHMC just called me to tell me that the results were normal

Because I am unable to afford insurance I am limited to my health

care choices. I am in the VA system for my care. I did fill out paper work at

Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center and can get free care there. After the VA did

the tests with me on all the meds I went to DHMC to see an adrenal gland

specialist. They did the test the same day with me on all the meds. I did ask

about doing the test with the meds I was on was told the meds didn't affect the

tests.

Tell us what drugs you were on and what your sodium intake was. When

Try putting data into excel and paste that into email.

That might get it in lines if not well formatted.

It looks like e-mail programs format copy paste different then then other

programs do. Maybe some of this has to with this site. I have both Juno and

and have checked them with my blood test chart. while they do change it

there own way I can still read it OK. It is only when the e-mail comes from

someone on this site that it becomes unreadable.

2 things,

One, the page will be distorted if over 56 characters

wide. It uses text only. We can set them for HTML but

it invites a lot of problems ( a S/L of spam).

Two, text means text only, and word, excel, etc, store

in their own domain.

So one way is to type the data into your emailer page.

My emailer will set the space at 56 (I think) because I

set it there awhile back. Yours came across this time

maybe twice that wide, but it should get trimmed going

out.

Tab keys - well, they don't seem to work well, mostly

tabs get removed.

Hello Ann - don't take ANY thyroid medication on the morning

that you are due to have your blood drawn for your thyroid function tests. This

is because T3 peaks in the blood between 2 to 3 hours after taking it, so if

you had your blood drawn on the same morning that you had taken it, your free T3

would show very high in the blood and your doctor would be concerned, thinking

that you are going hyperthyroid (because when are you on T3, your TSH will also

be suppressed) and will tell you to either stop taking it altogether and

go back onto thyroxine only, or to decrease your dose, both of which would be

bad advice. Hope you are starting to feel a bit better.

Luv - Sheila
