Guest guest
Hello , welcome to our forum where I hope you get all the help and support that you need. Have you been tested to see whether you are suffering with iodine deficiency. I mean, have you had your urine tested to check the level of iodine as a patch test is not to be relied on. When you post results, will you also post the reference range for each of the tests done so we can check whether your results are at the bottom, the middle or the top of the range, or even outside of the bottom or top of the range? We can then help with their interpretation. As far as the amount of iodine to be taken on a daily basis, in his book. Dr Peatfield says " Adult needs are thought to be no more than about 100-200mcgs daily, not that they shouldn't be taking in more than 150mcgs per day. Here, he is talking about the recommended daily dose. If you read all of his speech, you will see why he goes on to say … " Now, just a few words about how to take it. First thing to say is that the RDA at 150mcg is too low! You can all have more, especially you girls, you ought to have more. Brownstein, to whom I am indebted for some of this, recommends that the best way of taking in iodine, is a mixture of iodine and iodide. Probably Lugol’s iodine is the best preparation; one or two drops a day will provide somewhere between 12 and 50 mg a day. Iodizyme PH from ‘allergy research’ is another excellent product; even ½ tablet daily may correct iodine deficiency. These preparations are excellent and probably best for diagnosed iodine deficiency. But since so many of us are deficient, the use of kelp tablets is a simple and inexpensive alternative, and a valuable adjunct in the treatment of hypothyroidism and breast disease. You can buy them virtually anywhere. Three a day, maybe four, maybe more, perfectly safe, and will actually mean that you need less thyroid hormones, and you’re protecting yourself against fibrocystic disease and possible cancer of the thyroid, breast and ovaries. Taken in this way it is entirely safe; and sometimes works so well that you may need to reduce your thyroid hormone replacement dose. When starting iodine replacement monitor your response and temperatures and pulses very carefully. Hope this helps. I have attached the speech for easy reference. Luv - Sheila Iodine patch test a week after starting these supplements lasted over 24 hrs. Great I thought. Progress!. 5 weeks on iodine patch test repeated lasting only 12 hours. Very confusing. Can anyone advise whether I should be taking more or less iodine to support Thyroid. I purchased Dr Peatfield's book which stated that one should never take in more than 150mcg per day! Whereas his speech re iodine from TPA meeting on 24 april 2010 at Alma Inn (got from TPA site) states that 37.5-50mg is a far more realistic dose! I also read somewhere that if you take in too much iodine then it kind of back fires on you and it can make the thyroid underactive. I am very confused! Any advice/help would be much appreciated from anyone who has the time to help out! Thanks for reading, x No virus found in this message. Guest guest
Hi ,I don't have any advise about iodine but may I pick your brains about m.e. and the optimum health clinic - I don't want to sap your energies but would really appreciate some info. I've also had a diagnosis of m.e. and severe adrenal problems. I've had this for 2 years and have been bedbound pretty much 20 hours a day.I thought of arranging a phone consultation with Optimum as I couldn't travel there but wasn't sure how much a distance consultation would help.I'm wondering:did you visit Optimum for a course or use their phone consultation?how long did your recovery take?how long did you have m.e. for?Any help much appreciated - I'm getting pretty desperate now.Best wishes Alison

Guest guest
Hi Sheila, M.E. was diagnosed by NHS through the usual process of elimination. I am using their pacing methods. I tried graduated exercise therapy (GET) but crashed my adrenals as a result - I would recommend anyone to be very careful of the GET programme.I've had a 'normal' short synacthen test on NHS.Adrenal problems diagnosed by Dr P with saliva test. I am on HC 45mg, Florinef 2 tabs, T3 50mg, NAX 3 tabs. I crashed in December and am slowly trying to build up again. Dr P says the HC just isn't getting through and that I'm a very bad case It's not getting through either because of worn out receptors or possibly mercury poisoning. So it seems that all I can do is carry on pacing and try to build up the amount of time that I'm not in bed. It works as long as I do nothing - the trouble is financially I have to take in a lodger because I need to eat - and that in itself is quite draining. I'm trying to work out at the moment how to balance improving health/managing financially.Best Alison>
