Guest guest
Welcome , You'll love this group....Congrats on all your weight loss... That's terrific.. New Member Hello, My name is and I'm a new member to the group. Recently a 31 year old friend had a heart attack and almost wasn't revived. That really got me to thinking about making some major changes in my life. I have been big since I was born (Nearly 10 lbs!), and suffer from severe asthma. Weight just seemed to creep up on me slowly, with the medication slowing my metabolism and the asthma keeping me from being as active as other kids. By Junior High I wore a women's size 14 pants. By the end of High School I wore a 24/26. Now, I'm inching towards a 30/32. And at 303 lbs. I'd had enough. About 2 weeks ago I started making some small, but dramatic changes in my eating habits. I still graze throughout the day, but the fried potato chips have been replaced by fat-free pretzels or carrot sticks. The candy bars have been replaced with Geni-Soy bars. (If you haven't discovered these... well, they're still 200+ calories each, but have WAY less fat than a Snickers /and/ they have alot of vitamins. They make a good occassional treat or meal replacement). On January 28 I took the plunge and have started a regular exercise program. I'm signed up at the local YMCA for Yoga on Mon./Wed./Fri. and Tai Chi on Thursdays. I do a little cardio and weights, though the asthma still makes pounding that treadmill hard. The lure of the sauna and jacuzzi when it's all over, though, is incentive to keep me going! I weighed myself for the second time since starting all this, and I'm down to 259! I realize that with lifting weights I won't lose pounds as quickly, as I'll be building muscle... but my pants are more comfortable, and I have more energy than I've had in ages! I have a very large bone structure, so I have no illusions about ever becoming 'skinny'. My goal is to be about half the woman I am now. I'd be satisfied with getting back into a size 14. I figure that it will take a full year to get there, and hopefully with a bit of support I can make it. K.

Well, as much as I'd LOVE to be down to 259, that'd be a bit scary after only 2 1/2 weeks! (And only working out since the 2/01/02) I'm afraid that that should read 295. Still... Guest guest
Hi , glad you joined us. I'm from PA about an hour away from where you are moving. I also have a soon to be 3 yr. old and will be going with a medical exemption. He had a reaction at 10 months old to the Prevnar vaccine. The exemption will not be from the Pediatrician, because as far as he is concerned he will just not receive any more Prevnar. He hasn't been vaccinated since. My older son who is 15, has and had many food allergies as an infant and toddler. He was so ill he was diagnosed Failure To Thrive. Food allergies are not easy to deal with, so I know what you are dealing with. He is also diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome. He had two obvious reactions to his 4 month DPT, and the first MMR. If I can answer any of your questions about PA, feel free to email me.
Guest guest
Hi , I'm pretty new here too... I posted an intro a while back. Your post piqued my interest because, of the 4 jabs my son has had, 2 were DTaP, one HiB (not w/polio) and one Prevnar and we recently discovered he is allergic to peanuts (the day before he turned one year, he's 13 mos now). I don't plan to vaccinate any further - now to convince my partner of that as well. We convinced the ped to " hold off " ... now I get to tell her " over my dead body will you inject that crap into my son " . Of your sons other allergies, how did you discover them? Via breastmilk, directly or through allergy testing (or a little of each)? Basically, do you know what I should be watching for in a breastmilk reaction (he still nurses a lot and though I don't eat peanuts, I eat pretty much everything else). When did you have testing done? Do you have Epi-pens, or is there some alternative? I would love some links to the info you were reffering to on the connection between Hib, breastfeeding and food allergies and any other info on peanut allergy specifically (we already know about peas and lima beans... are there any others to avoid?) Sorry for all the questions, this just hits home for me. I will take it off list if it's too OT. Thanks for any info you have to offer and welcome to the list. le momma to nursling Tucker, 2/01 > > Hi. My name is .......... My son is very healthy (fights off colds great, no serious infections etc) however, he has a lot of food allergies!!! Peanuts, nuts are the big ones. He is also allergic to cows milk, soy, wheat, garlic, mango, apricot., cats, dogs, food dyes... I came across some info recently about a hypothesis that links the Hib/polio vaccine with breastfed babies ( which he was) and food allergies. He had that combo at the first set of shots, while I was breastfeeding. So even the first set of shots did a lot of damage. I am so happy that I did not continue with them. Guest guest
Hi le, I found out about my son's peanut allergy when he was 23 months after my husband gave him a bite of PBJ and he became cranky, crying, vomitted, and hives all over. Since he was an infant, he had terrible eczema, restless sleeping and always itching. When I was nursing I saw that when I ate something with a dye ( yellow #, red , blue) etc he became very " collicy " so I knew that was a problem in the first few months. When he was one I started him on rice milk instead of cows milk on a gut instinct and during nursering I cut my dairy down to a minimum. At 18 months I started on cows milk , he was 95th percentile for ht/wt .. In the next 6 months he did not grow an inch or gain any weight, he was having multiple, loose BM's and terrible eczema that even became infected dermatitis. My pediatrician kept telling me that it was just eczema but I insisted on bringing him to an allergist where he had blood drawn and was tested to all foods. I was suprised to find that he was a 2 to wheat, 3 to milk, 6 to peanuts, 1+ to garlic. I started bringing him to a chiropracter who specializes in childrens allergies and does kinesiology to diagnose and she came up with hte same results and also the soy, some other nuts, mango, pineapple and apricot. I have kept his diet 100% free of all the foods except an occasional garlic in a sauce or wheat (not whole wheat he can tolerate the white refined junk!!!) a few times a month. I also started giving him flax seed oil in his oatmeal and magnesium and vitamin C. After I changed his diet he grew a few inches, gained weight, started talking in sentences, normal BM's and his behavior improved tremendously!!! SO there where not alot of signs that would lead someone to believe that the foods he was eating was the cause of so many little problems. Biggest things to look for eczema, bad behavior and red circles under the eyes is a big sign of milk allergy. I work as a Nutritionist in an outpt medical facility and I catch the food allergies alot and the pediatricians hardly ever think of it. (or believe it). If your son acts different or uncomfortable after feeding that is a sign that something does not agree with him. Also, be cautious with the cows milk it is becoming as popular an allery as the peanut one but it is much less obvious. Yes, I do carry the epi-pen just in case. I will try to find the site where I got the other info. Feel free to email me if you have any questions at all. Since my sons allergies, I have researched the subject alot. tuckersmommas <dl_brooks@...> wrote: Hi , I'm pretty new here too... I posted an intro a while back. I'm 3.5 months from the same surgery and I can bend my knee 90 degrees for the first time in over a year. I have no problems with my other knee and the OS and other Drs think my chondromalacia (which is now bone on bone pattelofemoral arthritis) is injury related. Sometimes I get discouraged with the slowness of my recovery but I was in very bad shape and the OS said it would take 6 months of recovery and PT before I could walk unassisted. Last night I started having sharp pain spasms in the knee. I went to physical therapy today and could not complete the regimne as the pain and the spasms were so severe that the therapist said to bring my swimsuit next time and we will try the exercises in the pool. Tomorrow, I go to see the pain management specialist for the first time. We will see how that one goes. Jenni
Guest guest
Jenni, I stand at the wall and do leg lifts(shallow or deep end). After my surgery I would walk and jog. I would walk sideways(criss-crossing my legs), go forwards, and jog backwards. Water aerobic classes are great because you can work at your own speed and they teach you lots of different exercises. I swim mostly laps now because I used to swim competitively. I find that also helps a lot. Treading water also helps. Any exercises done in the pool should help because your legs can relax more. I would try to stay away from breast stroke kick. Kim kimberlylouise@...
Guest guest
I was "online" as your email arrived so thought I would just say a quick hello. Where in the world are you? Not that it matters its just interetsing as we are such a widely spread group now. Sorry to hear of your pain. I am at the early stages of treatment in comparison having had 2 lots of Bot Tox and next Wednesday a dilatation should be happening but I have a really horrible virus today ( a cold ) and so hope it can still happen! I'm desperate as the pain is so bad. I would have thought alcohol would be a bit of an irritant (?) I don;t drink because of all my drugs ( for other conditions too) I haven;t found anything to help the pan as yet . Use GTN spray if I am realy really ill but the side effects are hard to manage too ! Welcome to the group and keep posting . Chris(Plymouth UK) PS whats your name!! Guest guest
Howdy Singlerockice I am a 64 yearold male. In answer to your question about alcohol. My " A " has been going on for about 8 years. I have not had a drink for 25 years. I make this point to say that in MY case alcohol was not a contributing factor. As for the pain I take a drug named DONNATAL. It comes in two forms a small white pill that lasts for about 4 hours and DONNATAL EXTENDTABS which last for 12 hours or more. This medicine has stopped the spasm pain for me for the last 8 years. Of course I only take it 2 or 3 times a month when the spasms are overwhelming. I take it for 24 hours and then I usually do not have another spasm for 10 days or so. I have traced my " A " to my debt... It seems the deeper I get in debt the more my " A " acts up. Nervious condition may have a lot to do with MY condition. I had horrible spasms until recently. I started taking Arginine. You can read the posts about L-Arginine on the groups website under files. There is also a file for general info where some of us have posted our stories. I don't know about alcohol as I have never been a big drinker. I would also like to know where you live. If you would like more information let me know. I will find out. I may actually travel to go to that one. A well known vaccine attorney will also be speaking. I am sure they have a list of pedi's out there that are supportive of non vacc., and possibly a homeopath. Lora new member Hello everyone, My name is , husband is . We originally postponed vaccinating them because we were not convinced vaccines were effective or safe enough for their immune systems to handle. Guest guest
Hi , I too started off saying I was just going to delay the vaccines, I joined this list shortly after Trenton was born (going on two and a half years now) and after a few months I was convinced that nothing in the world could bring me to do anything of the sort to my precious little boy. I hope you can find some info to lead you in the " right " direction. One statement someone said that made my mind up for GOOD, was " Once you put it in, you can't get it out " - Who said that anyway? Chelly San Diego, CA Mommy to Trenton 8/19/99 - No Shots! I didn't get rubella, and no polio or tetanus - but I did just fine. Trenton did wonderful, although a week or so after arriving he came down with something - and old family friend said it looked like german measles - but I probably will never know - he got over it fine and was none the worse for wear. I'm not really afraid anymore that he will catch anything, he is old enough now to handle just about anything - I must admit, when he comes down with a fever or something my first thought is " oh no - not NOW " . I'm sure you'll get lots of info here, at first I decided to just do tetanus, and perhaps polio - so I looked into those first, made the load lighter by just looking at one or two at a time..... which illness are you more afraid of? Which vaccine would you consider? (and what are the reasons you feel that way) Those are the questions to start with, and work on finding out as much as you can on those first - the amount of information coming through here at times can become overwhelming - so ignore everything else and set your mind on one or two look at both the illness and the vaccine - then you can decide with confidence! Guest guest
Chelly, Thanks and we are still leaning to not vaccinate, but we have to be sure. We live in NY and I grew up in NYC and want to bring my girls there often. Chances are they won't catch anything but unfortunately you never know. Occasionally (enough) there are meningitis outbreaks around here and I haven't met a homeopath I feel comfortable with. I do use some remedies to get through minor illnesses. We have been fortunate, including having a pediatrician that is not trying to bulldose us. She is doing research on possible links of vaccines and autism, neurological damage, etc and has chosen to stock thermisol free vaccines in her office. I told her she is destined to become a hero on this issue. That statement is powerful, Thanks Again, - Nassau Cty, NY Trentonsmom@... wrote: bulldoze ---------------------------------
