Hi. Two of my three have been at least partially if not fully

comparison to her siblings and friends.

Wecome to the group. There are many here that are very willing to support

you. Take some more time and read through some more of the posts. I am 33 so

I am just a little opder than you. You can ask any questions and we will

try to help or dirrect you in the correct direction. As for the cause of this

disease it is unknown at this time. There are some theories about what

causes it but no comfermed kills as of yet. This is a progressive disease and

the

bestoption is the Heller's myotomy. Once again welcome to the group

we are happy that you have found us.

, welcome to the elite group of achalasics. I am sorry

you have this disease, but really glad you found us. There

are many here on the board that have found excellent surgeons

near you and I am sure you will be hearing from them.

One of the best places is The Cleveland Clinic in Ohio. Many

of this group has had surgery done by Dr. Rice there and they

have only good things to say about him, but I will leave that

to them. :)

Best wishes and don't hesitate to ask questions. Someone will

have an answer for you.

Your very welcome. I think it is harder for people to understand what is

going on when it comes to girls. Well, now you know what has been happening

and you are on the road to getting it fixed.

Hi , Thank you for the welcome. I have a feeling I will be

spending a lot of time around the group, everyone here seems so

wonderful, caring, optimistic and compassionate. I spent all last

night just looking at past posts and it amazes me. It amazes me

because all the symptoms that I've been experiencing are so similar

to those here. I try to explain how I feel to doctors and my family/

friends and they just don't understand. The funny thing is my mom

was so upset with the diagnosis (shes still in denial) and my

response was, " I KNEW something was wrong!!! " ...I was practically

relieved!

So, to all of those out there, thank you because all of you are a

blessing. I look forward to being here!

! Welcome to the group!

There are plenty of young people of your age and I am sure some of them will

reply to you. I am also a nurse and believe me that has some advantages

especially when you are doing research.

No one has come up with a cause yet and when we compare our stories and

problems, symptoms etc, we are such a diverse group that it is quite

impossible to say anything specific caused it. We all have a problem with

aperstalsis - zero motility after a while - and a spastic LES (Lower

oesophageal sphincter)

The preferred and most recommended treatment is a Heller's myotomy for young

people. The other options - dilatation and botox tend to leave scar tissue

and should be avoided for a long as possible. I is important to get the

surgery done before the oesophagus becomes dilated because that is also a

risk factor for failure of surgery.

I am sure the other will chip in and give you the names of successful

surgeons. It is vital to go to a surgeon who has specialised in this and has

experience with achalasia and the Heller myotomy. If done by any one else it

can easily be a failure.

You seem to be on the right track with managing your spasms (NCCP -non

cardiac chest pain). Most of the group carry water around with them for just

that moment.

We are all subject to increased symptoms when stressed.

Please join in the chat and if you have any questions or concerns do tell

us - many of us have been there before !

Good wishes,

Joan

THIS is common. Most of the unvaccinated kids I know are healthier by far

than vaccinated children.

Brigit welcome. Have you chosen a plan yet? We have WW, foodmovers, mcdougals, atkins, gals who create there own plan, and many others out here. Best advice buy a notebook for a journal and write down what you eat OR how you feel. It is a great source to look back on. And remember any plan you use water, portions, and exercise are in there.

Welcome Diane. Sounds like you are on the right road to healthy living. That is all we all want. I love watching adoption stories on the learning channel. Are they babies you are trying to adopt? Your new house sounds gorgeous. You lucked out getting 50 acres in FLA. Here in NH there used to be lots of land but developers have been buying it up and putting $400K on them. We have one right down the road from us.

I've been on the McDougall plan most of the time, and I *know* I have to

limit my starches drastically if I want to lose any weight, even though Dr.

McD says it's a starch-based plan and we *need* to eat all we want. He

probably has skinny genes up in his family tree, whereas I have the fat ones

in mine.

>I started on the eat-to-live plan a short while ago

Wow! I'm glad let me plug this list on hers the other day! LOL

That *is* how you found us, right, on the

eat2live list?

This goes against the definition of following a food plan. I *know* it's

hard, especially when one choses a strict vegetarian plan, as finding a meal

in a fast food or even regular restaurant is darn near impossible, but for a

food plan to work for weight loss it has to be a permanent, life long

change. (Says the lady who keeps falling out of McDougall eating and

therefore hasn't lost any appreciable amount of weight since 2000!).

> soon as we are in our new home (long story, but our home was destroyed by

You poor thing! My parent's home in Kissimmee, FL was damaged, and they

*just* got the check for repairs about 3 weeks before he died. My stepmom is

now going to get done the bare minimum - cosmetic repairs only - and sell

that house and move to Ohio ASAP. She *just* got the death certificates

Friday and he died in April, so now she can finally get the ball rolling on

everything.

> Our new home is a big house on 50 acres---plenty of room to get out and

No excuse now not to get outside and *sweat* - from exercise, not the heat,

that is.

Ouch!

>---exercising is more difficult,

It's hard enough for people our size to get in an effective workout, but for

those with injuries it's even harder. There's always videos that can be done

from a chair, like some sold by Bliss, , or the Chair

Dancing series.

but I will get

> back to some sort of normal!

With 5+ kids, what *is* " normal " ? LOL

>Our whole family is vegetarian

That would make Dr. Furhman's plan a bit easier to follow.

>I am now 230# and only 5'5 "

Gee, just 10 pounds over my *goal* weight! I haven't seen that weight since

I was pregnant with my 21 yo son!

>My first goal is to

> get back under 200#---a major feat at this point, in itself!

It'll be a long, hard road, but if you dig in, with your family's support,

you CAN do it!

> pushed into high gear on losing when my 6 yo daughter announced that

someday

What does she like about being fat - the soft curves, or the lack of

obsessing over every bite of food that goes into her mouth? It's so sad that

kids as young as 3 and 4 are being pushed into this obsession with weight

loss in America, and kids that young are are now being treated for eating

disorders.

Hi my name is and I am a stay at home mother of two boys. My oldest,

Micah is 2 1/2 and Ian is almost 9 months. When Micah was a baby we moved from

SC to WA to be closer to my family. Friends in SC had introduced me to the idea

of not vaccinating my son. After studying for myself I had to agree with them.

My family (mostly my mom) is very much opposed to the idea and lets me know from

time to time. I am so happy that I found this group who can support me in my

decision that I know is best for my children. Looking forward to meeting you

all!! God Bless.

Take some time and looke though the site. There is a page in here that has questions that you can print out and take with you. I would also write down any other questions that you might think of. Right now the best help for us is the Heller's myotomy. THere are other potions but the mytomy is probally your best option. I would realy consult with your surgeon though and really talk over what your options are. I hope this helps a little. Welcome to our family.

Hello !

Yeah, I had the same thing. I've had to manage my esophageal pressure and

contents since I was a little kid -- but in November 2004, I found that I

couldn't hold anything down. I even threw up saliva, hours after the last

non-saliva swallow. My internist sent me for the same tests, and the diagnosis

of achalasia was conclusive.

I guess the main questions I'd ask are:

1. How certain is the diagnosis? Does the Ba swallow indicate that the

esophagus converges to a point (doctors call it a " bird beak " shape, though

" sharpened pencil " is more accurate, to my eye)?

2. Is the whole esophagus enlarged? Or is it normal-sized, and then converges

to a point?

3. Is there a diverticulum? If so, should it be removed?

4. Can the surgery be done laparoscopically, or must it be done open? Lap has

less in-patient time (1-2 days vs 4-6 days), and less at-home recuperation (2-4

days vs 4-6 weeks). But if it's gotta be open, then that's life.

Hope things work out,

Hello ,

Welcome to the " A " family Group. Sorry you are experiencing this

frustrating disease, but glad you found us.

Sounds like you have been thru the mill. You mention your doctor,

so I am assuming this is a GI? Most likely, if he has already

diagnosed you with Achalasia, he will recommend treatment today. I

am 57 years old and lost 50pounds in 14 weeks. I went for the lap

Heller Myotomy on March 16, 2005, and I thank God that I was directed

to the right surgeon.

Please look over the file to the left. I think there is an entire

list of suggested questions in there.

Where are you from? Do you have a surgeon in mind? Do you have a

hospital in mind? There is also a list of surgeons that alot of us

have used and how we felt the surgery went.

Good luck today.
