Guest guest
You will be delighted to know that there are countless Green Smoothie recipes available online that tastes wonderful. Leann does have the 5 magic veggies on her vitamixlady.com website. Spinach is the most tasteless IMO.....I add Kale and Chard to my smoothies too, but in different fruit combinations that enhance their flavor (those 2 greens don't taste good with all fruit combos. Some simple yummy combos are: 2-3 cups water about 1 cup each of mango, pineapple, and spinach about 1 cup of ice unless using frozen fruit add more water or ice if needed 2-3 cups water 1 apple quartered 1-2 chard leaves (depending on size of leaves) about 1-2 cups blueberries 1 cup of ice (or less if blueberries are frozen) sliver of lemon Kale tastes good to me with combos of fruit such as pears, oranges, green grapes, bananas. I just use what I have on hand and again add 2-3 cups of water and about 1 cup of ice unless using frozen fruit. The stems of kale don't taste good to me, so I just use the leaves. My kids were 1 and 3 when I started making them green smoothies, and after they get used to drinking them they develop a liking for the greens on their plates (my kids are now 3 and 5 and eat spinach & lettuce raw, and dehydrated kale chips). They HATED veggies before green smoothies. Perhaps, you too will be a convert and start eating as well as drinking your veggies after you get used to green smoothies . Enjoy your new Vitamix, Kim > > Hello all, I recently purchased a Vitamix from QVC and which will be arriving soon. The main reason I shelled out $450 for this machine is that I'm one of those people that hate veggies, especially " green " veggies. I've been doing some research on green smoothies and wanted to see if anyone has a tried and true green smoothie recipe that will completely mask the taste of veggies - maybe something kids would really like. Guest guest
My dd likes veggies but isn't crazy over leafy veggies. Ds isn't a fan of much of any veggies except carrots or lettuce in a salad. However, I've been making green ice cream in the VM almost every day and they love it. I usually put a cup of milk, a few squirts of agave, about 4 cups of Costco frozen fruit, a squirt of vanilla, and a few handfuls of kale. I blend it all up and it comes out like ice cream and even though it is green and they've even seen me putting the kale in, they love the taste of it and eat it up! > > Hello all, I recently purchased a Vitamix from QVC and which will be arriving soon. Guest guest
That's great, - any way you can get extra veggies into them is good, and the fact that they know there is kale in there is even better! I don't really like leafy greens any other way than masked in a green smoothie by yummy fruit, but it sure is a great way to have them :-) Niki GloverCentral Coast, NSW, Australia On 13 April 2011 08:57, emmsmama <signingsmart@...> wrote: My dd likes veggies but isn't crazy over leafy veggies. Guest guest
Welcome Jo!!! For many of us it's one step forward and ten steps backwards, so you are doing better than some. We've all had lots of experience in many areas, but the most important is not to over do things and give yourself permission to rest (my doctor gave me permission to nap daily as I HAVE to as he says, I can't avoid not napping). Most of us I've learned are highly intelligent, previously highly active people who are struck with the inability to do most things as we used to. Most of us are people who used to achieve so much and now can do so little without sending ourselves into exhaustion. Most of us have been through so many doctors who did NOT understand and just thought we were crazy people, imagining all the little things that truly do plague us. No one knows for sure what causes CFS/FMS/ME (whatever you want to call it) but we certainly do know a lot about what bothers us. Many of us suffer from viruses and viral reactivation (the sore throat, sore glands, sometimes low grade fevers, aching body like you have the flu ALL the time). Many of us have leaky gut syndrome, food allergy, food sensitivities that prevent us from eating a lot of foods (I am allergic to wheat, corn, rice, soy, grapes, strawberries, lemons, grapes, etc. just to name a few). Keep your diet healthy, stay away from as much processed foods as you can and eat simple foods and as good a quality as you can afford or have the energy to buy or make. Stay away from artificial ingredients (diet sugars, etc.), additives and preservatives, etc. Get plenty of rest, rest before and after you have a busy day or outing scheduled so you don't send yourself back to bed. Most of us take a slew of supplements (Prescription for Nutritional Healing by Balch says we need more supplements than most as our body's are not processing things normally). A lot of the drugs doctors put you on have such severe side effects that it's not worth it, but many find relief with a few things; you have to try and some have to try small doses and work their way up. We have all been through many, many doctors before we find one who listens and works with us to try what works and doesn't. I have to do weekly chiropractic care and monthly massage therapy, but some can't do either. I use tempur-pedic type pillows and pads to sleep on, sit on. I ache all the time like I have the flu all the time (wheat makes it especially worse as it triggers an anti-inflammatory response). I live in a coastal climate so take hot baths with epsom salts a lot to soak and warm my muscles before working. I can walk but can't run. My muscles get out of shape a lot (this summer I had a bad heel with bone spurs and just pulled the heel muscles so badly I was on crutches all weekend) and it's always some area that hurts more than others, then it moves to some other place on my body (aarrgghh). Read, research, read, research and see what you think. I've learned so much from people on the internet and so will you. Your family may not be supportive, they might understand, but be sure you have someone to talk to who will listen so you don't feel alone in this. The problem with this is the time and energy sometimes isn't even there, that's why the internet is so great as it allows you to be on your time schedule. My time schedule is best when I can sleep in till around 9:00 AM, get up and do stuff for a couple of hours while my brain is clear and I have energy (pay bills, do dishes), then nap for 1/2 hour or more, then up for most of the rest of the day, sometimes needing another nap later, and I can get a lot done in the evening before bedtime at 10:30 PM or so. I need to sleep 9-10 hours; it used to be I was in bed for 10-12 just to get enough rest as I would wake every hour or so with menopausal hot flashes before I went on HRT (hormone replacement therapy). Enough for now as I could go on and on. Welcome to your new family of friends and be of good courage as there is some help out there these days for some relief and understanding. in La Selva Beach CA (near Santa Cruz CA) 58 years old On 8/6/2011 5:52 AM, mylifeasanhsp wrote: > > new member here, just saying hello. Guest guest
Tina welcome. Group is a little slow now. Everyone trying to get back into the swing of things. I am restarting my weight loss efforts BUT the best advice I can give you is Journal, water, portions, and exercise. NO matter what plan those few tips would work for whatever plan you chose. I am and have tried most. LOL I myself have PCOS which could of lead to fertility issues for me. BUT luck was on my side and planning everything helped. Or I cant even imagine the issues that I could of had. Welcome again. NH New Member Hi everyone. I hope this is ok, I just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Tina. I've been struggling with my weight for years. I've tried every diet plan that I can think of and the only one that really helped me was South Beach. On SB, I lost over 60lbs. Some family issues had come up and I slacked off and gained back everything I lost and then some. Now that I am married and trying to start a family, my doctor tells me it'd be healthier for me and my eventual children if I dropped some weight. SO here I am. What I'm looking for is support, guidance, and just somewhere that will hold me accountable. ------------------------------------

Welcome, Tina. Sorry I haven't been around - busy with an elderly relative, but now that she's settled in the nursing home once again (emergency operation then a heart attack) I should be around more often. Congrats on being able to lose on South Beach. Now to just do it again and stick with it. Have you incorporated exercise into your weight loss program yet? Aerobics and weights will help a lot. So, glad you're here (And any other newbies I may have missed). Be sure to look around the Links and Files sections of the Group for loads of info, and if you feel like jumping in, there's a Database set up for weekly weigh-in's, too. Feel free to add any links you think others would enjoy, too. Sue in NJ

Guest guest
Hello I am new to the group and I have some questions I am still waiting for my Kefir grains that I purchased from Amazon retailer names " Better Mothers " . Has Anyone tried them before? Secondly, I am reading lot of comments on goat milk. Now, is there any proof that suggests raw goat milk is better than raw cow milk? Third, does anyone in Houston know where to buy raw milk? I went to all the farmers markets in Houston and they only sell pasteurized non homogenized milk. It tastes much better and different than grocery store milk. But still it is pasteurized. And it was $7/gallon (ouch) Thanks Oguz Cepni Houston TX 77057 On Fri, Nov 4, 2011 at 1:31 PM, Marilyn Kefirlady <marilynjarz@...>wrote: > ** > > > You are in for a treat. And it was $7/gallon (ouch) " Thanks Oguz Cepni Houston TX 77057 Answer: Dear Oguz: I'm in the Houston area and get raw milk from Bob and Darlene Stryk of Stryk Dairy Farm in Schulenburg, Texas. They have jersey cows, and some of the cows have even been featured in Blue Bell Ice Cream commercials. They bring their raw milk and cheese to the north parking lot of Katy High School on Hwy. 90 every two weeks. They are there at 9 a.m. and leave at 10 a.m. There is always a long line of people waiting before they arrive. The next drop off is this Saturday, Nov. 12th, and then every two weeks after that. I have the dates automatically entered in my calendar in Outlook. They also go to other locations north and south of Houston, but I don't have details on that. The milk is $7 per gallon, or $4 per half-gallon (or $5 per gallon if you pick up from their farm). They occasionally have eggs and grass-fed beef (from someone else's farm, I believe). Their website is www.texascheese.com. I have been to their farm, so I know who I am buying from, and everything was clean. I took a group of neices and nephews on a field trip in there (July 2008) so they could understand the process of milk and how our grandparents lived. We had a nice tour of the farm and the kids even got to try their hands with the milking equipment, and then they played in the hay barn with the Stryk's daughter. The only thing that grossed me out was seeing all that slobber coming from the cows' noses. I had never noticed that with cows, but I'm only around non-milking cows. I also took the kids to a near-by free-range chicken farm, of which I buy their eggs. Hoeinghaus of Weimer, Tx. brings his brown eggs to the Farmers Market every Saturday at LaCenterra in Katy, Texas (see www.farmersmarketatlacenterra.com) from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.. However, sells out within the first 30 minutes. They are $4 per dozen, and the best eggs I've ever had! The yolks are a very dark yellow color. And my water kefir grains love the eggshell that I use in the first fermentation process! Hope this helps. I'm glad to have someone on this list from Houston! Guest guest
FYI: I think those of us who LOVE raw milk need to be very careful how we advertise for farms as we never know who is lurking. The last I understood it was illegal to sell milk in Texas off the farm so I wouldn't want to share that type of info in a public way. Please, don't take this as a rebuke but rather a lesson on preserving our raw milk farmers in Texas Drink more kefir Roy TX Chapter Chair National Coalition for Public School Options www.publicschooloptions.org/texas 817-909-0741 On Nov 6, 2011, at 7:51 AM, Sherre wrote: > Question: > " does anyone in Houston know where to buy raw milk? > > Sherre Vacek > sherre_vacek (at) >
Guest guest
Are you sure the nearest raw milk place is 4 hours away. Check out this list of all the places in Texas. http://www.realmilk.com/where5.html#tx Al Re: New Member > >I am sooo jealous! My nearest raw milk is 4 hr away and it's $10-12 per gallon. I am trying Organic Valley pasteurized (not ultra) from Sprouts at $5.99 per HALF gallon. >Lala in RGV >
Guest guest
, thank you for bringing that to my attention as I was not aware. I will remember to carry that information off-list and with screening. Again, thank you! Sherre Vacek > > FYI: I think those of us who LOVE raw milk need to be very careful how we advertise for farms as we never know who is lurking. The last I understood it was illegal to sell milk in Texas off the farm so I wouldn't want to share that type of info in a public way. Please, don't take this as a rebuke but rather a lesson on preserving our raw milk farmers in Texas > > Drink more kefir > > Roy > TX Chapter Chair > National Coalition for Public School Options > www.publicschooloptions.org/texas > 817-909-0741
Guest guest
Yes Al, I am sure. That list is where I found my closest source. And I live 4 more hours south of that.
