Guest guest
Apologies in advance. I am truly fed up now. Earlier today I spoke to one of surgery GPs, but not the sensible one with whom I wanted to speak as she is not available. I did this because I felt my iron deficiency was serious enough not to just leave things for a month until she was available. This was a serious mistake on my part. During our telephone conversation this GP tried to get me to believe: My Ferritin level is nothing to worry about as I'm not anaemic; it's 12, it should be between 70-90. My HB is 11.7 which is 0.2 above the bottom of the range. My Haematcrit is below range too. My symptoms despite the fact I feel so ill the quality of my whole life is comprised are not anything to worry about. PPIs do not cause problems with iron deficiency. Despite the fact, I am not overtly bleeding from anywhere and he is not prepared to accept that drugs may cause iron deficiency, he will not refer me to a gastroenterologist to ensure I'm not bleeding covertly. Despite the fact I have serious gastritis which is barely kept in check in the PPIs that probably caused the iron deficiency, taking oral iron supplements will not cause me any serious gastric upset and will put my Ferritin level to rights in 2-3 weeks. He doesn't think I have a thyroid problem because my results are in normal range. I'm very overweight and this is why I'm breathless, exhausted, have insomnia, hair loss, pins and needles in my hands, joint pain everywhere, swollen feet, leg cramps, extreme nausea, depression and feel suicidal. If you read in tomorrow's papers that a Swansea GP has been battered to death by an irate, upset woman who is sick to death of idiot medics who don't know what they're talking about patronising her and telling her she is wrong - that would be me. Any suggestions on how to communicate with medics who A) don't listen, and, don't know their research? I have an appointment with him on Friday morning. Thank you, Kath
