Marketing Authorisation For Teva Brand Levothyroxine 100mcg Tablets Suspended Over Effectiveness Concerns. The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has suspended the marketing authorisation for levothyroxine 100mcg tablets manufactured by Teva. This comes after reports that this brand of levothyroxine was less effective than other brands, as well as evidence of manufacturing difficulties. As a precautionary measure Teva has stopped manufacturing and distributing levothyroxine 100mcg tablets whilst investigations are ongoing. Only the Teva and Numark brands of this product are affected by the suspension and other brands continue to be available. Healthcare professionals have been advised to be alert to any changes in the symptoms of patients who take levothyroxine, as this may be due to them taking the Teva brand of tablets. WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?If you are taking levothyroxine tablets you should continue to take them as prescribed. Teva levothyroxine 100mcg tablets are temporarily unavailable but the supply of other brands remains unaffected. If you have received Teva brand levothyroxine 100mcg tablets in the past your pharmacist will dispense a different brand against your next prescription. It is unlikely that you will notice a difference in the effect between different brands. If you are taking Teva brand levothyroxine 100mcg tablets and you notice any changes in your symptoms, such as tiredness, weight gain, depression, feeling cold, dry skin and hair, or muscle aches, you should contact your doctor, who may decide to check your thyroid hormone levels. If you have any questions about this alert you should discuss them with your doctor or pharmacist. We have had a discussion about this on the forum when this information as first made known. However, here is their notification in case any of you didn't know about this. You can take your present stock of Teva levothyroxine back to your pharmacist and they will issue you with a different brand.
