Guest guest
Glad you brought the question of COST. We will struggle to pay for the doctor to see Adam and then the treatments I should think will cost a fortune! Easy for people on good money but I am unemployed. After saying all this I am of the attitude SO what! (cost wise) If I get Adam well then its worth living on nothing. Testing Thank you all for your kind words and support. I just do not know where to start...I put my son on the GF/CF diet...how long does it take before you see improvements on this diet? And all the vitamins (which cost a fortune). When can you expect some improvement? Elaine, could you mail me about this specific Carbonate Diet? Oh God, I just wish my son would not cry anymore...that is the hardest...he is so unhappy and cries so much, and bites etc. and never plays or whatever...he just walks around in circle's, bite himself and cries all the time...this has been going on for so long...years. I still cannot believe how normal and healthy he was as a baby...what went wrong...why did nobody told me about vaccins killing kids like ours. Guest guest
, Good news: there is a charity that is currently making a generous contribution to the cost of biomed treatments for UK children with autism in certain circumstances. They do a means test. I think you may also have to go through a practitioner they know about - I'm sure others on this list will advise on this. Google Caudwell Charity for more info. In the mean time you are trying GFCF which needn't cost too much if you avoid buying expensive substitute foods eg GF biscuits packed with sugar. It's a good idea to keep sugar as low in the diet as possible.I wouold suggest especially not bothering with GF bread: it's expensive and disgusting. However, some parents get it on prescription, if you do want to try the stuff. It would help to see an NHS dietitcian as they may support you in taking gluten out of the diet - see whether local families have found whether the local service is any use. Guest guest
You need to be on normal sodium. If you are low sodium, your renin level will be exaggerated and the ARR could be a false negative. Also, the aldosterone normal bands they have are for someone on normal sodium. Your urine should also include sodium, potassium and aldosterone. I don't know if being off spiro for three weeks is the correct time length. I think you should stay on the potassium. Dr. Grim can correct me if I error. Without seeing any labs, and just from your description, you most likely have PA. You should probably be checked for the hereditary form (GRA). Val From: hyperaldosteronism [mailto:hyperaldosteronism ] On Behalf Of Pam French Sent: Saturday, August 30, 2008 11:18 AM hyperaldosteronism Subject: Testing Hello every one! I am new to the group. A little about me. I am a 49 year old woman and RN. I have been ill for a number of years. I will not go in to the long of it but most recently I have had problems documented (not new to me but finaly found clinicaly) with low potassiium, affecting ekg results, low mag/phos. intermit.weakness and elevated blood pressure. My MD is going to check me for Conns syndrome at my request, and he does feel it is a legitamite request. There is also a strong family history that supports investigation. My father had bilateral hyperplasia of the adrenals on autopsy and he did have a ruptured brain anyuresm as did several of his brothers before the age of 40. My concern is preparing correctly for the tests. My MD did not give me much in the way of instruction. Iam sure I should be off my spirolactone and the lab said to stop meds for 3 weeks. I have been on spiro for over a year along with potassium, to hold the potassium in my body. I am to have a aldosterone level, renin level, ratio, cortisol, actch level and urine for spot k.So far I know I need to arrive and have labs drawn at 8 am for the cortisol and be up for 30 min. and stop meds. Anything else? I want the tests to be as accurate as they can be. I know we can not offer or receive medical advice but It would be good to hear from someone who knows the ropes so to speak. thank you so much. Guest guest
You almost certainly have the inherited form of PA called Glucocorticoid Remedial Aldosteronism. But there are other inherited forms that can look like this. I would read my evolution article in our files and take to your Dr. Where do you live and I can get you to someone who knows what they are doing. With your family Hx I would be worried about stopping spiro and would do the tests on spiro first. Have you never had renin and aldo tested. If not then you need to complain to whoever is in charge of where you have been cared for almost all your live or at least after you knew your family Hx. If you can give us more details on the FH you may have a cause for a malpractice lawsuit or at least your brother's family may have. Gene tests do not require stopping any drug. Guest guest
I would not stop spiro if BP and K controlled with her FH. Need more details on how high BP has gotten in past and how low K has gotten. If I did stop spiro I would monitor BP 2 x a day, weigh daily, and check K weekly if it has been very low. Trust you have already had a renin and aldo measured? On Aug 30, 2008, at 11:59 AM, Valarie wrote: > You need to be on normal sodium.
