Guest guest
Ellen I was wondering about the sleep issues you mentioned. What are they and how do you deal with them? **************It's only a deal if it's where you want to go. Find your travel deal here. Guest guest
I have never even heard of Revia...curious to know more about it. It always saddens me to hear how much control is relinquished to " the system " when a child moves into a group home...this just shouldn't be how it is... It makes me want to keep my son at home for a VERY long time in spite of his sleep issues. Ellen Ellen Garber Bronfeld egskb@... I became " THAT PARENT " , but it's working My son moved into a group home a couple months ago. Since then, I've had issues with lack of communication. The next to the last straw was a good sized and unexplained bruise on my son's arm & not being told about it. (Was found on a Friday by staff; I found it on that Sunday when I picked him up. (they said he bit himself, but nobody saw him do it. The incident report even says he told them " it's a bite, but I didn't do it. " Long story shortened....Momma bear became Momma BEAR & they are now calling me..... My son is on Risperdal. The psych. that he now sees wanted to put him on Celexa & Revia. (Celexa was already tried before;) I had said No to the Revia also, but changed my mind after talking to his neurologist's nurse. At his dental appt on the 21st, I told the group home staff to leave message that I okay'd the Revia. Today I found out that they had the medication, but couldn't give it yet until the nurse came in to put it on the med sheet. So " he might " be starting it by Friday. (I do have to admit I dragged my feet on this, because the psychiatrist wanted the Revia added the first time he saw my son....(I have an aversion to psych docs anyway.) Has anyone else tried Revia for " self-abusive behaviors? Liz
Guest guest
Noah cycles all over the place...for years (age around 4 until around 16 or 17) he had a hard time falling asleep and a harder time staying asleep...for a number of months he might have more of one problem (falling asleep) vs the other (staying asleep)...we tried loads of different meds, loads of behavioral stuff...I can only remember not sleeping much for many years...We had him locked in with a door that had a large cut out higher up so that we could always see him and as he got older, he could see out...once he was totally toilet trained (about age 13) we had to keep the door unlocked, of course... Then he had a period of a couple of years when he slept well for several days and then cycled up for a day or two...THEN he got worse and sometimes didn't sleep all night!!! As he got older he got easier, in that he would at least try to stay quiet, was not destructive, and he really tried to fall back to sleep... Right now he is falling asleep pretty well most of the time but 3-4 nights a week he gets up to go to the bathroom around 4 or 5 am and has trouble falling back to sleep much of the time...he will watch videos, but he wants us to start them...then he does quiet down...hubby is not great about being able to fall back to sleep...I fall back to sleep while I am walking back to bed We have tried limiting fluids, etc... Gotta run...Noah awaits...we have a whole evening routine...reading, games, some talk about tomorrow, bath, more reading and bed...talk about RITUALS!!! Ellen Ellen Garber Bronfeld egskb@... Guest guest
Oh...forgot to mention the years of fecal smearing (stupid me...I had purchased wicker baby furniture!), tearing up everything in sight, loud noises, jumping from high places... If I think long enough, I am sure I could add to the list of fun! Ellen Ellen Garber Bronfeld egskb@...
