Guest guest
Hi all: Here is the latest update on the state budget from the Arc of Illinois: The Arc of Illinois July 16, 2008 Leaders in The Arc: Here is a summary of today's House action on Motions to override the Governor's budget vetoes and reductions to developmental disability services/supports. The House failed to override the Governor's veto of the following budget items: 1. 2% across the board cut to grants & purchase of care 2. 50 cent per hour wage increase to direct care professionals 3. CILA nursing rate increase 4. PUNS - aging caregiver 5. PUNS - youth transition 6. DHS Personnel Costs Associated with the Money Follows the Person Grant The House voted to restore funding for the following budget lines that had been reduced by the Governor: 1. The Autism Program 2. Illinois Life Span The Senate is not expected to return to Springfield until November 12th. Therefore, the House action today really doesn't matter because the Senate only has 15 days to act on the overrides once they are sent over from the House. Therefore, a supplemental funding bill will be needed to restore budget vetoes and reductions. This budget battle is far from over. You still need to talk to your Representative and Senator about these terrible cuts to disability services. Tony auski The Arc of Illinois 708-206-1930 Please click here to be removed from our list.
