Having a play set in your backyard can be a great way to get your

child off the couch and out into the fresh air. With childhood

obesity on the rise, we need to do what we can as parents to get

our children active and enjoying playing and interacting with

each other children again. Being able to go out in the yard and

have something to do is just one small step in the right

direction.

Playgrounds and play sets can be an integral part of your

child's growth and skill set.

Each piece of the play set can assist our children in different

ways. And overall it can make our children healthier and happier.

Monkey bars help with upper body strength, hand eye coordination

and gross motor skills.

Climbing up slides, as children so enjoy doing, get's their leg

muscles working and gives them a great stretch as well.

Swing sets can be a great workout for most of their little

bodies. Exercising everything from their arms, to their

midsections and their legs. All these benefits from having some

fun and swinging the afternoon away.

Of course the play set itself can also play a key part in

socialization skills. Inviting friends over to actually go out

and play can go a long way to helping your child develop better

interpersonal skills.

Plus there's the creativity factor it brings out in children.

Creating games and things to do on the play set also help them.

And it can get their brains working more than simply staring at

the television all day long.

And of course just getting out and playing helps them get much

needed exercise. And when they are really going, their hearts are

pumping, their blood is flowing and they are getting the added

benefits of a cardio workout.

Simply being outside helps as well. Getting fresh air and

exercise will not only give them the added health benefits, but

most children will sleep much deeper and better after a day of

fun outside. Plus, the fact it's your own play set helps control

the amount of germs your children are subjected to.

As parents it is our job to ensure our children are raised

healthy and happy. Having a play set in your backyard can help

achieve both. And they'll never be the wiser about the health

benefits they are getting. Give them something fun to do, and

watch them play themselves into better shape.
