I do keep an Excel spreadsheet where I account for all expenditures for her by date, where and amount. I divide it by board, food, entertainment, misc, fast food, gifts, charity, and medical. I have one page for each month. I also do the checkbook accounting for her SSI account in this same spreadsheet on another page and show the input of the check, and each expenditure, which is primarily the room and board to the family and then I pay things like SRA fees, and charges for her therapies (primarily the horse which is $30 week).
