thank you ellen for putting this out again. I have told john I would be

willing to speak, he called to ask me this eveing, but I really want him to

make a big effort to get folks who have been on the puns, not getting any

help. If we have a panelist or 2 or 3 who have great stories the

legislators are going to wonder what all the fuss is for. If you or if you

know someone who is struggling, has been givien mis information and turned

down whatever, these are the stories that need to be told.

We have seen tough challenges on this IPADD, and we all know someone who

could use HBS...those are the stories the lawmakers need to hear. Cindi

Sensitivity policeman here -- TWEEEET!!! It occurs to me that the

people you'd like to do this may have extreme difficulty getting

away. I started to write this reply asking if I could offer respite

care for a few hours -- nothing involving medical expertise -- but

just walking around a mall, watching cartoons, or doing floor time,

etc. But then I noticed I can't get away on the 8th. I know this

sound lame, but does it give anyone else the idea?

I was just at a Naperville Disability Commission meeting, and two of the members

-- 1 our incoming ADA Coordinator, the other a parent/commissioner -- said they

were planning to go. Hynes is the Commissioner, and he has a young son

with autism who will also be in attendance. indicated he would sign up to

speak.

We really need people to step up!

Hi all:

We have only one panelist for the next Townhall meeting:

12/8/08 7:00-8:00 pm

Wheaton Community Center 1777 S. Blanchard Rd., Wheaton, IL (corner

of Blanchard and Naperville)

Please step up if you live in this area. Cindi Swanson has already

volunteered. We need at least two if not three other people...family

members, self-advocates. Call Coorey at the number below if you

can do this.

It is SO important that legislators who come to this will see a

strong showing of support for the Blueprint and for advocacy for

people with disabilities....otherwise they will be on to some other

issue on December 9th!

Whoa, you lost me!

I thought this was an opportunity for interested members of the public to come

and have 2-3 minutes to address the state reps who will be present.  I recall

reading a suggestion that we bring typed copies of our remarks to give to the

state reps and press.

If it's 90 minutes of listening to state reps tell us they care but IL is broke,

and a panel of parents or providers telling me that services in IL are a mess,

and a mere chance to ask a question from the floor, then I have better things to

do in early December.
