The Arc of Illinois

December 15, 2008

Leaders in The Arc:

We are aware that a growing number of families in Illinois may be

dealing with the loss of their jobs, and loss of health insurance at

this time.

Some laid-off employees may be eligible to continue their insurance

under COBRA for a limited period of time (link to COBRA here).

Did you know that here in Illinois children ages 18 and younger can

be eligible for All Kids health insurance, if they lose insurance

coverage from a parent's job? All Kids is available to any child in

Illinois who does not have health insurance, regardless of family

income or special health needs.

The Arc of Illinois Family to Family Health Information and Education

Center has a helpful booklet, " All Kids vs. COBRA Coverage: Which One

Should I Pick? " that explains all about these options and how to

apply.

I just wanted to add that if the child is still in school, All Kids will cover

you until 19.  Medicaid did not process Angel's application until she turned 19.
