Guest guest
Ellen, I'm thinking it's not really a good fit, but I'm thinking any 16 bed facility is going to be the same thing. I wanted to get him into a 4 or 6 bed CILA when he first moved out, but as I've said before he didn't meet the criteria of being abused, homeless or neglected. One of the facilities we looked at with another agency is a 4 bed CILA, but wouldn't fit well with the other residents that are there; they are older, nonverbal, don't get out into the community much & there's no openings. The administrator there is a guy that used to be one of his supervisors at a day program. , him & I used to butt heads a lot. The case manager doesn't work or even contact us now that he moved into the group home. We did get a letter to update his PUNS in March.....I think it's pointless, but I'll do it anyway. Hate to sound so negative all the time, but that's reality. Liz
Guest guest
Liz: This is one of the big problems in our system...people do not have a choice where they live and with whom...it is not individualized and we set many people up for failure... I don't have any good answers except that we do have a Director, Lilia Teninty, who has plans to write another waiver to remedy some of this, especially looking at individual support options and she is also working on quality measures throughout the system. If the Blueprint gets fully operationalized, we should see down-sizing of state operated facililites. If the funds that are saved in down-sizing are reinvested back into the community system, that should provide for improved supports and services...that said...we each have to push and push and push to get what our own children need in the meantime....Grease your wheels and squeak as loudly as you can...for now, that is about all we can do...remember to present your situation to your legislators as often as you can... It is, I know very discouraging and frustrating...in a word, it sucks. Ellen Ellen Garber Bronfeld egskb@...
