Guest guest
Thank you Susie, and Lori for giving me some perspective on what to do for my daughter's success with the play. I was speaking with a friend whose son attends high school with my other impaired daughter and she had her son's IEP opened to include the following: That after-school activities her son would like to participate in would require the school to provide an assistant for him since these activities are offered to all students regardless if they have an impairment or not. It would, I believe, come under the ADA as well. I would rather think that the school could not discriminate against a student who would like to participate but had no aide. I would volunteer in a minute but I need my daughter to be independent of me. I want her to experience as much as possible without a lot of " adult " supervision. I also agree that a " peer-buddy " would be perfect. Both students could learn so much from each other. Heck the whole crew could learn a lot from having a student who is not " exactly " like them, " be just " like them if only for 2 hours every other school day for a month or so. BTW, my daughters were in the BEAUTIFULLY arranged Christmas program at College Church in Wheaton this evening. This by far out does any big time concert or musical that comes to Chicago!! There had to be at least 60(?) STARS up on stage playing chimes and autoharps for the first part of the program then the second half was the Christmas scene starting when the angel , visited to when Jesus was born and then more songs. Each cast member had a costume on that were very realistic and it was just a beautiful sight watching all of our very special loved ones singing and acting as if they were on Broadway!! So if you noticed extra bright lights in the direction of Wheaton Friday evening it was our STARS who were shining the brightest!! Thanks for allowing me to share!
