Guest guest
FYI, the state had planned to borrow $1.5 billion to pay down part of the $4 billion owed to disability and other providers of services. However, as a result of the Guv's indictment, the loans are in jeopardy because AG Madigan cannot sign off on the legal documents that certify the Guv and other Illinois officials are not facing legal issues that could interfere with Illinois' ability to repay. In addition, Standard & Poor's has placed Illinois on a negative CreditWatch, which will significantly increase the costs of borrowing (if Illinois can even get the loans). Any continued delay in payments to disability support providers will take their circumstances from urgent to critical. You are urged to contact your state legislators to quickly resolve this issue before the disability system in Illinois goes bankrupt. Additionally, you should contact your U.S. Congressman and Senators and tell them to make available bailout funds specifically to support important social services. They need to know that disability and other social support systems are critical to the persons who need them. Our impact on employment and other economic systems is equal to those of businesses now under consideration for bailout support. Given the importance of what we do, ours should trump all others.
