Guest guest
I'm here too. Went to the picnic last year, but have a family reunion to attend today. Unfortunately the weather is not cooperating in Reading, PA. Rain, rain, and more rain. The public pool we belong to is completed flooded with muddy water (creek beside the pool overflowed into the pool) It forcasted to be in the 90's next week and that pool is my only sanity in the summer!!! AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! Stopped by and asked if they needed help cleaning up this morning. They are waiting for the fire company to come and pump the water out, then the mud will have to be shoveled out, the pool scrubbed, and then refilled. The whole process could take a couple weeks. What a bummer for the kids (and moms too!) Jackie, Mom to 13ds, 10, and Bradley

Guest guest
Same here! It does seem weird not to have any mail, doesn't it?!?! I used to belong to a Cornelia de Lange syndrome (one of my very favorite disabilities) list and when they had their annual conference it became VERY quiet on the list. Someone used to think of a " hot " topic/question to keep things alive while the majority of the group was gone. Anybody got a " hot " topic??? Guest guest
Hi Jill, why do you think colors should be important? If you want to give Mac means to communicate his needs while playing with the other children, I think is helpful when they can understand what he wants to play - eg ball, puzzle, doll or whatever he likes. Then there could be typical activities like reading, singing and so on. So you could avoid frustration that he isn´t understood in his attempts to initiate playing. Elias used signs, too, when he first came to daycare/preschool. The other children were quite fascinated that he was " talking with his hands " and adapted his signs easily. In the meantime he is talking quite well so that he needs no more signs - but then I was astonished by the readiness to learn of his playmates. Greetings from Germany Anke with Elias (3,5 DS) and two teenagers http://www.familiew.de/ -----Ursprüngliche Nachricht----- Von: " Jill son " <thrill@...> An: < > Gesendet: Samstag, 23. Guest guest
I guess, I thought of colors because he is already signing " blue " when he sees something blue, plus when I went to observe the preschool the teacher played a game where she picked the kids to come up by what color they were wearing-- " If you have a red shirt on come to the table " , " If you have blue socks, come on up! " . Mac does sort/match colors and recognized/identifies blue, but not the others, yet. I agree that maybe more specific activities is probably the way to go--ball, blocks, book, etc... And that maybe I should just focus on the many signs he already knows, not worry about teaching him preschool signs he doesn't know. Like Elias, my hope is that he will begin to talk more and sign less--so I'm trying to not sign so much, but.... Mac is just over three also, when did you notice a big change in Elias speech? Mac has spent the last two years (during the school year) at daycare with typically developing children and his actual speech has not yet improved greatly (but it IS improving)--I'm hoping being 3.5 yrs. old and is a school setting a few hours a week will help. Thanks for your input. Guest guest
Thanks . Mac does try to sign his ABC's, but he's nowhere close to even an approximation on most letters. He does " read " his name and says a clear " m " and " o " and when he gets to the " c " he says " e " , but he signs " c " . I haven't pushed ABC's too much yet. That will probably be for when he's closer to 4 or 5. He does love to sing songs and do songs with finger/hand/body movements. He will excel during song time at preschool!! Guest guest
We're here too...hoping to make it to the suaree next year. Luckily we didn't plan to go this year as I woke up with Strep throat on Saturday morning. Thank God for Amoxicillin...it is 24 hours later and I am 90% better. Another happy occurence..our 15 year old T.V. went. It was a wedding gift, I guess we can't complain since it lasted so long. But buying a new set wasn't in the budget this month! R. Guest guest
These 'carrier' phrases are very useful, tim has several and the 'I want............' one was the first one Tim learnt. Initially in sign and signing 'want ......' Then I want ......' til you reach the speech phase and all the words, I want a/the .........' etc. Tim can use 6-7 word 'carrier' phrases, open the.... I can see a.... where/what is...... etc to make himself understood . often when he babbles and is not understood he will stop, think and then change what he is babbling about into a carrier phrase. sue wong Phrase beginnings such as, " I want...
